Recommitting to the gym

Ken Gipe
Mar 23, 2010

It was a pretty uneventful last week. I got in three good workouts. One with Trevor and two while I was officiating at the state swim meet in Canton.

The hotel I stayed at had a nice fitness room with a treadmill, elliptical machine and recumbent bike, as well as a weight machine, fitness ball and dumbbells. To top it off, there was an indoor pool and hot tub adjacent to the fitness room. I used this facility twice and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially being able to go in the hot tub and pool to relax after the 45-to-60 minute workout.

Eating was not too bad. I had a shake and fruit every morning, a high-protein lunch and normal, balanced dinner each day between sessions of swimming and diving. I tried to have some popcorn at the hotel, but it burned in the microwave, so I guess I wasn’t supposed to have it.

I have lost 37 pounds and 15.5 inches since Jan. 1. Now that swimming is over, I hope to be able to increase my workout frequency and intensity and have a really good month of March. I have only averaged about two workouts a week for the past two months. I have done well, but am looking forward to some really great progress since I will have more time to work out and prepare my food in advance. Also, I hope the weather will break and I can get out and do some bicycling.

Most of the name calling or insults is just a release of frustrations. Frustration at not being able to change things, at elected officials not listening to the voter, at the circumstances surrounding the individual, at the lack of good paying jobs, the list goes on and on. Yes there are some people who will do it just to say something and be quoted on a blog, you know being recognized. I don't think you need to take anything that is blogged negative, personally. Keep up the good work Sue, I enjoy reading your blogs and stories.

Wow, you are a real MotherFuckingBitch.

I'm not a "blogger" --I'm a "community commentator".. Thank you, very much.

First of all Sue you really do a great job on your blog spot. Interesting topic today. The Bible says "Out of the heart the mouth speaks"...so if your heart is full of vulgarities and filth that's pretty much what's going to come out of it and so explains 65% of the comments left on any blog. The Bible also says we are born with a 'sin nature' so yes, I agree...we are born with the on switch for evil and goodness has to be purposefully taught with a heart in pursuit of a Holy God.
It doesn't take enormous intellect to communicate effectively and even less intellect to spew a lot of expletives and vulgarities, but it does take extraordinary effort to promote civil discourse. I am ever aware that there is a name and face and feelings behind each pseudonym. I'm taught that I should try and be at peace with all men. The Bible says that at the time of the end that "the love of most will grow cold". The blogs are full of cold hearts. Keep up the good work Sue and pay no attention to that little mean man behind the curtain for his time is short.

Most don't like truth (America). Especially those in "authority." There is never anything wrong with facts. Wise are those who quickly admit their errors.

It's the frustration that I'm so much smarter than the rest of you losers. You are all like that ADHD child and I'm the parent that has lost patience with your inability to focus and understand very basic things. So I guess it's the inverted saying of "Ignorance is Bliss"...that's how most of you operate, in complete ignorance. In my case, superior intellect causes pertpetual anger and rage! I guess it's my curse.

Look Sue! You made it in the top stories! Congrats! I even helped make it possible for you to be in the top ten! You owe me a thank you! Plus, your blog still stinks!

Get Over It

Most people seem to agree you do a good job, Sue. I think you do a great job at the levy funded job you have at SOS. But there are many people who find you very annoying. Does everyone have to love or like you? Many have commented that you know everything about every issue on earth.I guess that is annoying. You do not need to keep defending yourself and critizing others. Just like a politician, once you decide to take on that role it puts you in the public eye of the taxpayer, you must expect both positive comments and negative. And this constant complaining about the bloggers is also annoying. If you want to hear how wonderful you go to your supporters Maybe do away with the Blog that way you won't be so hurt or horrified.

Sam

Why does she even have a blog? Answer to serve her own self serving views and those of foamy man and Matt.

What this Sue person has to say. They will be guarded comments at best. I care more about what the anonyms bloggers have to reveal. They shed more insight on perspective because they do not have to disclose who they are. Also, some are pretty darn funny. Nothing funny in this article...just plain BORING!

For me, it's because I'm too fat and out of shape to get out often. So I get on the message board and post my non sensical rants.

Love to all,

You are so right. There is humor in some of these posts. Also some stupidity too.

Well I see your light bulb finally went off again. Seven sentences, I sense you growing as I speak. Great news for me, the blog and you, not so good for the chair though.

I do notice you use the word stinks in every post. Some might consider this redundant or redumbdent in your speak, but keep up the good work! I think your writing don’t stink as much as it did.

To “Yes Im ANGRY”

First off, if you have to tell people you’re smart, you’re probably not. Thinking hurts and I can tell you’re in pain.

“So I guess it's the inverted saying of "Ignorance is Bliss"...that's how most of you operate, in complete ignorance.”

This means the same thing. The second part is not inverted. Your thought process is. You can ask the rest of the blog but I think that’s an automatic 20 point deduction from your I.Q. Good luck with your brain functions!

Personally, I think you and Matt Westerhold are an asset to the SR. I enjoy reading what you write and I like Matt because he tells it like it is.

Hey Rick I find your postings painfully annoying. If someone wants to use the word stinks to describe the horrendous bloggers associated with this newspaper then so what?
I got you pegged Rick, I see you as a lonely, friendless, a$$hle who spends his days trying to prove to everyone else how smart you think you are. I think you really believe that you are being cleaver and have the upper hand but at the end of the day all you have is your computer and about three inches of human spakle on the monitor screen. I bet you find yourself so starved for human contact that you find yourself enjoying the two asian girls and their cup a little too much. See Rick I can also be cleaver and insult you at the same time.
Hey Sue while I do enjoy your blogs I would contend that the "angry blogger" phenomenon is not as big as an epidemic as you think. I would say that some people need to toughen up a little bit. Since when did it become unacceptable to criticize someone? This is another example of the way that we as a society have become sissys. Take for example the cleveland suburb who eliminated the little league all star game because it made the kids who didnt make it feel bad. Give me a f-in break, this is how some kids grow up thinking that they are entitled to everything and shouldnt have to work for what they want. Same thing with the blogs, if someone chooses to say that your blog stinks doesnt that inspire you to make your blog better, after all isnt that what you are trying to accomplish with this blog.

Yes i truely agree with person that is talking about angry bloggers these people are crazy some of the thngs they say are un real! And crule

You just can’t say “$$pattle” on the Internet….

It’s not very clever to spell it like cleaver, you sound like Eddie Haskel on “Leave it to Bever”

The negative comments you have gotten from some of these bloggers means you are doing your job well. Keep up the good work!

I don't blog that very often but once I was accused by one of the bloggers of being Kim Nuesse. I think I was also accused of being YOU. It was intended to be an insult but I took it as a compliment.

Sue Daugherty

This will conclude my comments on this topic. Thanks for the excellent participation!! I think we might have hit on something, here. My next blog is on a similar topic. I hope you are join in on that one, too!

In the meantime let me say this...
TO SAM: In the newspaper 8/3/08, in Matt Westerhold's editorial, he has invited other people to have a blog. I don't know why I was invited. But it appears that you are invited, too.

TO FAITHFUL FEW: I really liked what you said!!(edited version due to space) *Out of the heart the mouth speaks"...so if your heart is full of vulgarities and filth that's pretty much what's going to come out of it
*...we are born with the on switch for evil and goodness has to be purposefully taught.
*It doesn't take enormous intellect to communicate effectively and even less intellect to spew a lot of expletives and vulgarities, but it does take extraordinary effort to promote civil discourse. I am ever aware that there is a name and face and feelings behind each pseudonym. I'm taught that I should try and be at peace with all men.

My hope is over time we can all be mindful of the third point that you made above. We really could have some great debate packed with meaning on these blogs if we adopted that principle!

TO GET OVER IT. Thanks for your feedback. You said something I found very interesting, and that I was not aware of - "Many have commented that you know everything about every issue on earth.I guess that is annoying. You do not need to keep defending yourself and critizing others".

I wasn't aware that some people see me as knowing everything about every issue. HHHMMMM... I suspect that might be caused by the advantage of discussing the issues I get to work in the newspaper -- and now the blog. That comment gives me more credit than I am due. It is based only on perception. It's not a reality.

The other thing you pointed out is that I criticize others. HHHMMMMM, again. You would be doing me a favor in my future blogs if you would bring to my attention when I negatively criticized others. I'm not aware of it. (I'm assuming you mean criticize the person. I don't believe in crticizing people. I do belive in criticizing behavior, but not the person. (There is a difference.)
I do appreciate your comments, though. Keep'em coming! -- Sue
