Unhealthy eating started at young age

This has been a difficult past week for me because of the many things happening. My daughter-in-law gave birth to our third grandchild on March 20 at 5:44 a.m. so I have been back and forth to Columbus twice in the past five days.

I got in three good workouts, but I am still having difficulty dropping more weight —I think it is relocating. Measurements are pretty good, but the number on the scale is about the same. With all the travel, it has been tough to eat properly, but I am working on it.

From the time I was about 12, I have had a weight problem, mainly caused by poor dietary habits. I grew up in a meat and potatoes family with two younger brothers and a dad who was a picky eater.

The vegetables we ate were on the starchy side like corn and beans. I never ate a salad at home until after I was married.

Even when I was swimming competitively, I was always heavy. I did not look good in a Speedo. I know that is more info than you wanted, but you got it anyway. Michael Phelps and I have nothing in common as far as our bodies. We both are/were butterfly swimmers, but the similarities end there.

We also had dessert with every meal. My mom was an excellent cook and a good baker. Most meats were broiled or fried; potatoes were a staple at most meals, and I still love potatoes cooked in most any fashion.

I never had pizza until college. Now, it is one of my favorite foods, as long as there is extra cheese and meat. Pizza isn’t a vegetable so vegetables don’t belong on it. A meal is not a meal without meat involved, in my opinion.

As I grew older and more into athletics, I have always been pretty good at most anything I have tried, except skateboarding.

For many years, I felt that my body type was a competitive advantage because who loses an athletic contest to the fat kid? Golf, tennis, volleyball (played in college), racquetball, basketball, hockey, serious badminton, water skiing (slalom and trick), baseball/softball, swimming and others were all sports that I participated in and I was quite competitive.

I am not a fast runner, but I have good reactions and learn physical skills pretty quickly. I had to learn quickly to be competitive because I was slow. Once I bunted in a baseball game and the third baseman came in, fielded the bunt and beat me to first base — no throw needed. That was the last time I bunted.

After I started to raise a family, I decided I needed to learn to run. After a couple of years, this led to running competitively in 10k races (best time of just under 39 minutes) and, eventually, I ran the 1986 Cleveland/Revco Marathon, finishing in just over four hours — not fast by any means, but I did it. I kept this up for several years, but was always entered in the Clydesdale Division for runners more than 200 pounds.

I began to have some knee problems in my late 30s so I quit running and during the past 25 years, I have been on the yo-yo diet. The lowest I have been was in the 240s and the highest was331, which was where I was when I began FIT Challenge.

I am learning to exercise with more of a purpose and have seen great progress in my strength, flexibility and agility, as well as a marked redistribution of my weight.

I have been sort of on a plateau for several weeks, but part of that is my inability to plan my eating in advance. That is my goal for the next month: Try to come up with a plan for planning my diet more effectively.

This controversey will not end soon. If you feel Nuesse will NOT get anything by filing a discriminatory civil suit in FEDERAL district court, you are ALL out of your minds. It does not matter if YOU think she was competent or not, be prepared to PAY. The new SPD chief MUST be from the outside with the entire support of city council. Someone must place SPD under the certification process so a SOP manuel (Not FOP) will give guidance to ALL members. But, the command staff will only do what it knows best. They will sabotage anyone that tries to take away their power and commits to changing things. They have proven they will skip the chain of command and manipulate politicans. The new chief must promote good people and place the cancer in meanial jobs. The reason why the public is against LE officers is because of their lack of professionalism. The people do NOT serve the police, the SPD is supposed to Protect and Serve. They have the first part right, but the second part needs a plethora of work.

Fair enough, but it's being widely reported that over 90 percent of Obama's more than $266M has been raised in chunks of $200 or less.

Well, we need to talk about this. Maybe I misunderstood the original entry of SPD Officer. If not, I'll be in @ 6 AM-See you there.

You are WAY OFF! She won't get a dime, she won't get her job back. After we wait to see what happens in the 6-10 years it takes to see the judge maybe we can talk then. :)

are correct why isn't a--hole Baxter answering any questions? He acts like he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and is taking the 5th.

Anonymous

?? I don't think there is a need for Baxter to answer anything is there? She worked for the city manager, the city manager fired her. Seems pretty simple to me.

Anonymous

Pretty darn good with that name calling aren't you supporter's? Sure makes her look ALOT better with supporter's like you now doesn't it. Tells alot about the company she keeps.

Anonymous

You all need to get a grip. Baxter will not answer. Kim will prevail in a lawsuit. She more than likely wont get her job back. Your stupidity and name calling will not change. Matt will continue to do his job, and yes he does his job. He does it well enough he keeps all of you reading and arguing. You're not going to stop reading no matter how much you threaten or cry. People will continue to take sides in this and every other matter posted. Black hearted stupidity will keep you posting vile statements to families in pain, because this cloak of annonimmity give you gonads. And life will go on. Chat soon.......:-)

To WHY HASN'T WESTERHOLD>>> Kevin does have questions to answer, regardless of who her boss may have been, because he played a part in her ultimate downfall. He does not seem to want to call in the AG to conduct an accurate and unbias investigation. Why? We are a community on the edge and we are not acting very well and this situation has too many unanswered questions to be ignored. period.

Anonymous

He is a newspaper reporter, you dummy. Baxter isn't answering any questions because he is scared to say anything. Might get his gonads crushed or at least tightened in the vise.

Anonymous

will come when there's criminal activity not when there's a minor employment problem. So don't hold your breath on that one.

Anonymous

Baxter has got to be getting worried about people calling him out on his crap lately.

Administrative Misconduct, Abuse of Power and Evidentiary Misrepresentation ARE CRIMES DOOFUS!!

Anonymous

Geez Matt- I cant stand Baxter but these questions clearly look like you and Kim had a GREAT time sitting down and thinking these ones up! These questions sound like something SHE and BAILEY would like to ask him, and as always are using YOU as their PUPPET!

Anonymous

Cancel the SR? Absolutely no way. Because of Matt Westerhold and the SR staff, I just became a regular subscriber again! YOUR DOING FANTASTIC, MATT!!!!!!!!

I don't THINK something SMELLS rotton in Baxter's office, I KNOW something does and the corruption is not only there. It's time ALL these despicable corrupt individuals are exposed, forced to step down and GET OUT.

So, is this "widely reported" source saying anything about the size of the "chunks" being donated by the Republican supporters?

Last night Obama raised more than $5 million, which will be divided between the Democratic National Committee and his presidential campaign. (The money included about 200 seats at a VIP dinner that cost $28,500 per couple. An additional 700 people paid as much as $2,300 each to attend the reception.)

Looks like that $200 average is starting to rise.

Anonymous

Why don't you post a GIANT photo of Baxter like you did for Tommy Ferrel?

Many years ago for a college Political Science class, I wrote a paper about the Federal Corrupt Practices Act of 1910. It was enacted to limit campaign spending.

There was also a toothless campaign-spending act, which passed Congress in 1907.

So, here we are over 100 years later and we’re still talking about the same thing.

As long as there are politicians, there will be money, and legislators will continue to pass campaign finance laws in an attempt to purify the effects of one upon the other.

Not to be totally sacrilegious against the pronouncements of the Great and Powerful Obama, but there ain’t no magic no matter how he’s been able to turn a phrase and amaze and wonder the gullible masses.

Is it my imagination or does this case against the fired Police Chief Kim Nuesse sound a lot like the former Judge Ann Maschari's case? Looks to me like the good 'ole dishonest boys club got a tad bit overconfident.

Well I continue to be amazed at how short our memmory is. Not very long ago Obama said something to the effect that he would not go this way because if one takes money form someone he is then beholden to them and there intrest. He said that he would go the same way he is now looking down his nose at McCain for. But ( now this is the part I can not understand ) Obama is put on a pedistal for being the better man.

Baxter is just a conduit to what the Sandusky commission is asking him to do. He needs to do his duty and send the AG request on. How is it going to look for him to turn it down? Who is Baxter to turn this request down with his conflict? I would certainly look into this if he did turn it down because it wouldn't look good. If he is not doing anything wrong, what is the problem with allowing it to proceed unless he has something to hide.

Anonymous

Hey Matt...pick up the phone and follow the AG request. They'll never recall me!!

Westerhold leaves Sandusky Register and takes job with City of Sandusky. He will be the new boss at the City's Water Treatment Facility (CRAP factory) on Harrison St. Rumor had it his credentials for stirring the CRAP far outweighed any of the other applicants.

Don't get too close to the storage units Matt, you might fall in and sijply blend in with the spew that you pass off as news.

Maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing though, because you would just be washed into the system and we wouldn't have to hear your "crap" any longer. Terds away...........

Anonymous

I think the investigators from Murman & Associates with their $22,000.00 worth of CRAP at the taxpayers expense would be a lot more qualified to work at the City's Water Treatment Facility then Matt Westerhold.

Anonymous

I think your house could be an alternate site for the wastewater treatment plant. There is so much bull$hit there that it would be almost impossible to clean up. Terds away on that.

This very enlightning comment came straight out of the mouth of a Law Director from another County: "What in the HELL did that $!$!$!$!$!$!$! ERIE COUNTY pull off THIS time????????" Take note this was said PRIOR to Kim Nuesse.............

Anonymous

Sorry, it wasn't a Law Director from another County that made the comment---it was a Prosecutor.

Anonymous

This is going to be GREAT! Westerhold v. Baxter. Why don't people understand that the reason why Baxter WILL NOT call the AG's office is because that man has WAY TOO MUCH TO HIDE! Do you actually think he wants them down here to figure his misdeeds out? Once that happens, that man would spend the rest of his life behind bars! Don't look for HIM to call in the AG- It'll NEVER happen!

Anonymous

is not only hiding, he is thinking of going on vacation for a few weeks hoping this will all die down by the time he gets back.
