FIT Challenge 2011: Meet Jacob Mohr, ‘I can’t remember a time when I was not overweight’

Jan 4, 2011

My name is Jacob Mohr and I’m 22 years old and I have been overweight for as long as I can remember.

The reason why I want to do the FIT Challenge is that as I stated earlier, I can’t remember when I was not overweight.

When I was in the first grade, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, which gives me a slow metabolism, which makes losing weight very hard.

All through grade school, junior high school and high school I participated in all kinds of sports, it is not like I just lounged around and watched TV.

Right now, I am healthy, but I do not know for how long. I will soon be turning 23 and with the way I am right know, I start to think about serious health problems like Type 2 diabetes.

When I walk into a restaurant and people look at me they think that that is all I do is eat and eat, and when customers do not know my name where I work they just say, “Oh the big guy who works in the back.” I want that to stop.

I would like to be in a relationship, but unfortunately most girls just look at the outside, not at the kind and funny person I am. I know with the FIT Challenge comes hard work and I am ready. I am ready for a complete life change, not only to get healthy but to gain the self confidence that I need.

Congratulations Jacob on being selected. I look forward to watching your progress over the next year.  Make us FIT Challenge alumni proud!

Good luck Jake.  I know you can do it.  What helped me lose 80lbs in 6 months is a gym membership and online calorie counting website called My Fitness Pal.  Highly suggest visiting the website and signing up for a free account.

Congradulations Jacob!  I have a good friend that signed up for this challenge also!  I do wish you all the best of luck, and everyone whom didn't win don't let this be a stopping point in getting healthy!

Taxed Enough Already

Hi Jacob, I remember you from High School.  You were always such a super nice, respectful young man, and you have a big heart.  I am in your corner rooting for you, I know you will do well.  Good Luck and God Bless!

Congratulations on being selected to participate in FIT Challenge 2011!

I too have hypothyroidism. I was diagnosed with it around 9 years ago. I too thought it would prevent me from losing weight as quickly or as easily as the other contestants.

As long as you take your medication every day and stay comitted to exercising and eating right the weight will begin to "melt" off and stay off.

I like how Annette said, "us FIT Challenge alumni", because that's what we are. Know that we alumni are here if you need us.

Changing yourself is never easy but you've already taken that first step so don't ever look back. Each step you take from now on is toward becoming a new you.

Hi Jacob. I'm Natalie and i just wanted to wish you the best of luck. I am looking forward to the challenge this up coming year. In the end we will all be winners.
