Album of the Year

What's been the best CD released this year?

It seems the consensus pick, at least among music magazines and newspapers, is "Dear Science" by TV on the Radio.

Rolling Stone picked "Dear Science" this week. So have Spin Magazine, The New York Times, The Minneapolis Star Tribune, The Indianapolis Star, PItchfork Media's fan poll and countless others.

Another popular choice has been "Fleet Foxes" by Fleet Foxes (Pitchfork Media, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, NME, etc.).

Pitchfork is considered the Bible of independent music, so their choice carries a lot of weight within the music industry. Consequently, expect more accolades for this Seattle folk-rock quintet in the coming weeks.

My choice? "Stay Positive" by The Hold Steady.

The classic rockers from Brooklyn just keep getting better. Although "Stay Positive" made most top 10 lists, it didn't seem top reach No. 1 on any of them. Now it has.

Why is it that all of these so called winners are people that no one has every heard of?

Jason, check this out.

Notice the dateline....there is a Dean Meyers in town......maybe it is not a joke.

I read your article about the fellow reporter locked in the judges chambers. I found myself stuck in the bathroom once when the doorknob malfunctioned and wouldn't allow me to exit. There I was....had water, toilet, radio, but no phone to call for help. McGyver-like, I used a set of nail clippers to take the doorknob apart, but was still stuck. Finally I used a can of cleaner to pop the pins out of the hinges ( thank goodness they were on the inside of the door) and then pulled the door inside the bathroom.

You should have heard the laughter when I called in to work and explained why I was running late.

Good thing your co-worker had a cell phone!

'Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!' by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

I enjoy the video of the title song on Tube:

Did!!! Lazarus Dig!!! was definitely one of the 10 best albums of the year. One of Nick Cave's best albums. Thank you for bringing it to people's attention.

Dear Reader,

On the one hand, I guess it's a good thing he had a cell phone.

On the other, I would have loved if Fitz would have had to remove the doorknob like you did using just the resources available to him in the courtroom. Would he have used a gavel to hammer it off? Could he have successfully escaped like you? I think either way it would have made great video.

Anyway, thanks for the great story. Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. Next week, I'll get back to a consistent schedule.
