What's your honest opinion on it?

UPDATED:   Here's Dan Gilbert's open letter.

Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

Just watch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....

Dan Gilbert
Majority Owner

I couldn't care less!!!

Oh come on!  You don't wanna go into the street and set a couch on fire?!  What's wrong with you?!  LOL

crazyaide

Who cares..all he cares about is the money..these guys are way over paid!!!

BabyCakes
I hope Kanye West doesn't interrupt LeBron's decision to remind everyone
that Jordan was the best basketball player ever.

Crazyaide:  It was NOT about the money.  ESPN reported that the Cavs offered him a lot more $$$ than anyone else (30 million more, if I remember correctly).  He wants to win, and clearly, he thinks his chances are better elsewhere...

I think he is promising something which he cannot deliver. There are two guarantees in life, one is death and the other is taxes. He is speaking with less dignity than James and turned on him for not going with the Cavs.

It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that James was leaving. If he was going to stay, he would have said so weeks ago.

You sports fans out there need to come back down to earth and redirect your energy and spend your money on something that actually MEANS something. We are pathetic when we let people go hungry to pay for this nonsense and don't get me started on calling the players 'heroes'. They're not any such thing.

Ol' Mr. Gilbert sounds a little bitter, doesn't he? That letter is absolutely ridiculous.

Bryan Dubois

Sounds like a WCW trash talking session, doesn't it?

I.Am.Crayons

That's the epitomy of sportsmanship right there. I'm glad I have his personal guarantee on a championship, though. What's that line from Tommy Boy? "Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside. Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right?" LOL

Bryan Dubois

LOL.  "I'd rather take the butcher's word for it..."

Anyway, that's exactly what I was thinking about the letter.   Poor sportsmanship - and he's the OWNER for cryin' out loud!  Way to incite hatred and possibly violence towards James.  I predict James will receive death threats by morning if they haven't already come in...

Bryan Dubois

LOL @ Loathing wife.  Internet meme on the way...

LBJ is the new AI.  MJ made the players around him great.  LBJ is a talent vacuum.  The Cavs tried for years to put a good supporting cast around LeBoob and he kept making excuses for not pulling it off.  He's a proven sore loser, a proven loser, a proven narcissistic egoist with his head up his palatial posterior.  While some of Mr. Gilbert's letter was indeed hyperbole, it was spoken with a genuine heart and a genuine love for Cleveland.  We fans of the Cavs, Browns and Indians have suffered far too greatly for far too long.  Remember that MJ didn't win a title in his first contract, and instead of jumping ship he stayed and tried to make his team better.  LBJ has gone AWOL and in the military the penalty for that is death.

NBA-Nothing But A-holes. Who cares? College basketball is much more fun to watch.

I thought LeBron was making a mistake going right to the NBA, until I saw him play. Then I knew he could compete at that level at 18. However, playing in the NCAA tournament a couple of times and working with a good college coach might be the difference between winning two NBA titles, and winning none. This year, he went totally flat in the Boston series, because he doesn't know how to handle pressure, something 2 to 4 trips to the tournament might have taught him.

I sure wish that he he felt that winning one championship in his hometown was as good as winning 10 somewhere else. And who would choose to move their family to the Miami area?!?! He wants to be a legend, but he appartently didn't realize that in Ohio, he already was one.

Lebron, you haven't signed anything, and can still change your mind...

Dan Gilbert also needs to grow up some.

Tweety Sees Eve...

Very unprofessional.  Gilbert should have been wooing the other free agents to Cleveland and have had a backup plan in case this happened!  Apparently, his overconfidence in his organization looked past the possibility that LeBron could actually turn his back on them and walk away.  That is the worst part.  They should have at least offered the sign and trade to get something out of it!

Another huge day in Cleveland sports history.  This might be the biggest black eye ever though.

Makes you wonder how Gilbert is going to win a chamionship in Cleveand before Miami will.  Personally, I cannot stand the NBA. It is a joke league.  However, Cleveland has nothing to offer to bring in the people that it would take to win a championship...now or in the near future.

Back in the early 80s when I lived and worked in Cleveland and the local economy was struggling, I remember seeing T-shirts for sale that read:

"Cleveland - Ya gotta be tough"

Sadly today they would likely read:

"Cleveland - Ya gotta whine"

Who really cares?  Do something with the Browns and LBJ will be just so much garbage that you were glad you go rid of.  Unless the NBA changes the rules and allows three balls on the court, Miami isn't going to win either, as three individual stars have never beaten a good 5 man team!!

The biggest betrayal to the Cleveland fans, and then many Lebron fans out there was this: That you had arguable the best player in the NBA but couldnt win a championship. The truth of the matter is that you were poorly coached and waited till it was too late to correct the matter. So, Mr. Gilbert, call him a back-stabbing, hearless, callous, coward all you want, but just know that in the end the buck for Cleveland's failures stops at your desk.

Taxed Enough Already

Now now Dan let's play nice in the Sandbox!!!!  Or would you rather take your toys and go home?

SarahTonin

There ain't no betrayl here! LeBron didn't owe anybody anything. How can Gilbert talk about loyalty when he traded Ilgauskas away. I think that he said back then, it was business. Well so was this Dan and you lost!

The problem is that Gilbert is stupid. Just read that letter and that proves it. For Gilbert and LeBron it was business. LeBron played at the top for 7 years and got paid accordingly. He gave everybody millions of thrills while he got millions of dollars. Bought and paid for.

A smart owner would have called LeBron in a year ago and said "here is a contract extension, which you will sign, or I will trade you away for all I can get!" That would have been good for the Cavs and good business.

Gilbert and his stupidity lost Boozer and now he's lost LeBron. Why'd he bring Shaq here? More stupidity.

The Cavs ain't going to win anything as long as Gilbert is steering the bus! What an idiot!

xxAeroKid05xx

Well Sarah..Noone could have said it any better then what you just did!..

Your right..he traded "Z" and said its only a business..

Well nwo Lebron leaves him, and its nto business anymore?..its betray..

Well why?..Because you lost dude!!..You cant run a team franchise!!

SarahTonin

BTW andbody look at what Gilbert said about LeBron throwin the finals? I ain't no lawyer but that seems like a perfect description of libel. It's a darn good thing I'm not LeBron or I'd be looking for some lawyers to make Gilbert either retract it and apologize or I sue the crap out of him! I suppose LeBron is bigger than that though.
