What a hectic week! We’re in the homestretch of closing out the school year, so I’m becoming inundated with final exams and projects. Couple that with the start of summer baseball and you’ve got a couple of weeks of me trying to figure out which end is up.
I did get to the gym four days this week, as well as one day on the treadmill at home. I worked with Patrick Carmean (NOMS personal trainer) twice, both days working on my circuits, trying to continue to increase my endurance. I’m feeling as though I’m getting there, as I was able to do more reps on many of the exercises.
Twice this week, I wrapped up my sessions on the stairs (all 21 of them … I’ve counted) taking two of the 35-pound plates up and down 10 times. I must admit, it has been a challenge to get through all 10 of them, but I’ve broken them down a couple of different ways. The first time this week, I did four sets back to back, then three, then two, then one. On Friday, I did four, followed by two sets of three.
My son had his first tournament of the year starting on Saturday. This was my first great opportunity for me to fail with my healthy eating. Well, it didn’t happen. I brought along a few bags of my dried fruit and almonds, and both of the meals we had while away from home were big salads with grilled chicken. Both tasted great and did wonders to satisfy my hunger. I must admit, I didn’t think there would ever be a time in my life when I would crave a salad. If that isn’t progress, I don’t know what is.
On our way home from Sunday’s game, we stopped at a Whole Foods store. I had never been in one of their stores before, and was very interested in the different sights and smells. We picked out a few unique items, including jicama. We contemplated getting a few different things, but not surprisingly, I only picked out a bag of almonds and a small container of fresh peanut butter. OK, I didn’t exactly get too creative while there, but I did get a couple of items that I do enjoy. Maybe we’ll make another trip and I can get a bit more adventurous.
Derek, Carla….best of luck and keep up the hard work…..and before I forget, Congratulations Nicole!
