Mark T. Brooks Sr., 55, of Bellevue, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, in The Bellevue Hospital.
He was born June 12, 1956, in Monroe, Mich., to Junior Lee and Ethel A. (Braden) Brooks. Mark was a 1976 graduate of Bellevue High School. Upon graduation from the police academy, Mark served the Huron Police Department before joining the Bellevue Police Department. After 22 years of service, Mark retired in June 2008 having earned the rank of detective captain.
After retiring, Mark served on Bellevue City Council as an at-large councilman. He was recently elected in the November 2011 elections to represent Ward 2 on Bellevue City Council. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Bi-County Lodge 53 where he served as president.
He is survived by his wife Michele (Baptista) of Bellevue, whom he married June 29, 1977, in Monroe, Mich.; four children, Lisa Brooks, Cindy (Jason) Michel, Cory Brooks and Mark Brooks Jr., all of Bellevue; two grandchildren, Kaiden and Gianna of Bellevue; sister Kathy A. Boyd of North Carolina; brothers, Ron L. (Chris) Brooks and Donnie R. Brooks of Bellevue; and his mother Ethel A. Brooks of Bellevue.
He was preceded in death by his father Junior Lee Brooks.
Friends will be received 2-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, where a Fraternal Order of Police service will be at 7:45 p.m. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.
