Bellevue

The 79-year-old Bellevue man who told police he beat his wife to death will appear before a Huron County judge. In the meantime, he’ll remain in jail on $1 million bond.

Bellevue Municipal Court Judge Kenneth Fox on Tuesday denied a request to reduce Clifford Beach’s bond during a preliminary hearing where three witness testified about what they saw Aug. 16 at the couple’s Walnut Street home.

The judge said those testimonies and other statements — including the autopsy report —  offer substantial evidence that Clifford killed his 63-year-old wife, Linda.

I guess i dont understand how dementia causes you to murder someone... i realize that it deteriates your mind, but unless the thoughts were already there i dont see how you go from loving a woman and then killling her.  I dont believe in the death penalty but if he did a crime he needs to goto jail... i dont care how old he is

Maybe all one can do is hope to end up with the right regrets.

I have to wonder...if this man is really as ill with dementia that he has uncontrolled rages and doesn't know where he is or what he's doing and requires full time medical observation...how equipped is the jail to hold this man?  I know the jails see lots of mentally ill inmates, but it makes one wonder

He apparently was not a...how do I say it...nice person to his wife throughout the marriage. His own brother or half-brother said  they have been expecting this to happen, so  what does that tell you about him.

re. ex-local

What makes you think that this cant happen to you ?, And what would you do if it did?

What do you think we should do the same thing to you ?

If the man is sick and due to his age , how could he defend himself against what the worst of the worst  has to give to him ?

I really feel for the guy , cause yes he might have been a s.o.b in his younger days , but we dont have the rght to be in humon  to him now , stop and think about it .not to mention his wife has said that this is the knid of thing that should stay with the poeple that need to be responsiable for this sort of thing

Sending a sick person of his age to prision would only be cruel and would make us no better then him sick or not

Send him to a hospital to live out the days he may have left and let it go at that .

I am not saying that what he did was right , as a matter of fact , if he was younger and in his right mind , I would say fry him , But we cant do that cause of his illiness , Show some heart and think of it as you would yourself , and then see what you would think about it .

I think he is just a mean old man who is leaning on the supposed diagnosis of dementia.  He probably beat her throughout the marriage.  Throw him in with the general population, that is what he deserves.

I know. That's why I can't believe there is even going to be a trial. In a study done of over 100 patients diagnosed to be in the advanced stages of dementia in New York nursing homes only two or three lived past 12 months after this diagnosis.

If this man goes to trial it will be surprising. I'll bet he doesn't even realize what he did.
