Autopsy shows man shot by deputies was intoxicated, had cocaine in system

2010
The family of a man shot by Sandusky County Sheriff’s deputies on July 11 said he had been drinking heavily before he threatened his and his mother’s life.
But according to an autopsy report released Wednesday by the Sandusky County Coroner’s office, Bryan Jones, 26, also had cocaine in his body the day he died.
The final autopsy report shows Jones had a 0.12 blood alcohol level and 0.107 mg/L of cocaine in his urine.
Jones’s family called 911 and requested deputies come to the family home on Tiffin Road in Ballville Township after Jones threatened to hurt himself and kill his mother.
When deputies arrived at the house, they found Jones on the sofa with a shotgun. They assembled a tactical response team and deputies fired flash-bang grenades into the house to disorient Jones before bursting through the front door.
According to deputies, Jones pointed the gun at them and they fired.
The autopsy report lists “multiple gunshot wounds” as Jones’ cause of death. He was shot three times, once in the head.
Sandusky County Coroner Dr. John Wukie said after a preliminary autopsy report was issued in late July that Jones’ wounds were consistent with the man raising his arms in firing position.
Jones’ family has criticized the way the sheriff’s office handled the incident. They called for the firing of the two deputies, brothers Mario and Jose Calvillo, who fired the shots. They said Jones was a troubled young man who needed help, and that deputies could have diffused the situation without killing him.
Sandusky County Sheriff Kyle Overmyer said he feels for the family, but believes his deputies followed protocol. He requested the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to review the incident anyway.
Overmyer said Wednesday he expects to receive the results from the BCI review soon.
Jones’ family has said they’ve retained legal counsel and would not be commenting further on the incident.

SIck of hearing about this man. I was at the Fremont fair, and a couple had t-shirts on that said something to the effect that he was innocent. Yeah, so innocent his family feared for their lives and called the police. If the parents didn't want the police involved they should not have called the police. THe police did their jobs. Because the parents failed to do their jobs. IF i was the cop, i would have shot him myself. The dude was hopped up on cocaine and alcohol. Very unpredictable. Point taken, the kid is dead because the parents failed to control him. They have nobody to blame but themselves.

I have to wonder. A guy on the couch drunk and high on Coke. What was going through his mind?
The police were called by the family. They had a job to do. They did it.
If it was you, wouldn't you want them to protect you even if it meant use of deadly force?
As a side note...remember these types of conversations and others blaming gangs and drugs for our violence, prostitution and other problems.
Remember them the next time someone brings up what kind of things will come to our little area if we bring in gambling or casinos.
Think about it Sandusky

Unfortunately, this mans' family enabled him all his life. None of them has EVER taken responsiblilty for their own actions. During their last protest they had two little boys out on the street waving toy guns at cars passing by.
Does that sound like a "stable" family environment, to the rest of you??

Naw I think it caused extensive damage to his head as the dumped a bunch of money to fix his head for an open casket showing. As a Note: If any one remembers all the stories printed on this guy, he was on a downward spiral look at all the charges he wracked up prior to the "event"! All we hear from the family is "why did they not wait him out?" Well I think if you see how the family behaved after the incident, they the family may have become a problem at the scene with wanting to go in talk him out etc. and a judgement call was made to make an entry before it got out of hand. Just my thoughts. Remember this was a convicted felon (not allowed to possess firearms) had been convicted of firing a shotgun using shotgun slug/s into a house (don't care if the person living in the house was a drug dealer or not), kinda makes ya wonder how many gears were stripped in that head long before that night!

Well now. WHERE are all those stories where the SR tries to BLAME the officers for this tragedy? Come on SR, how about looking into the private lives of each officer at SPD, SFD or even the city commission?? Yeah, that should help you solve the crime wave in the city. How about presenting more garbage investigative reporting to find BLAME?? I know you can sift through garbage cans and harass neighbors to find something to report as "breaking news." Ha! Ha! I just knew it was the BLAME of those deputies that invited themselves into this home. And here is a tip for all you liberal crybabies, including the SR: It is NOT the BLAME of your liberal UNION law enforcement officers. They do NOT control the illicit behavior of others. YOU can NOT control what others do. Most of you whinners can NOT even control your own children let alone BLAME the police because you are a FAILURE as a parent. You want things cleaned up? Then YOU do it! What are YOU doing?? That is what I thought! Typical liberal agenda of BLAME, SPEND, MORE MONEY FOR MORE FAILURE. Let's BLAME the cops. Let's BLAME the city commission. Let's BLAME cut backs. Let's BLAME while sitting around being miserable and doing NOTHING as members of the freeloaders club. Yep, it works every time. Ha! Ha!

There is a good reason that are so many shootings in Sandusky, there are a lot of drug users on the street, that's what is causing the shootings and fights.
It's about time that the police and the citizens of Sandusky take the time and energy to put a stop to the crime and drugs , the parents need to take a stand against there children to eliminate the situation.
Unfortunately someone was shot, in my opinion the police done the right thing, I consider it to criminal when a law enforcement officers life is on the line each day and the citizens look down on them for doing the job today he paid to do.
Let's stop the crime, stop the drugs, stop the shooting, the sad thing is when something like this happens in neighborhoods it seems that no one knows who was committing the crime.
. Folks stand up and make these people accountable for their actions.

The Left Temporal-Occipital Scalp would be the head wound, and it sounds like the bullet grazed him (hence the scalp addition). But everything else sounds consistent with what I Pay Taxes said.

The parents are still trying to make someone else the scapegoat in this, rather than accept at least a portion of the responsibility for it. It's so much easier for them to blame their failure on someone else, that way they again shift a burden onto someone else's shoulders--i.e. the burden of guilt.

I feel for the family whose son was killed, but unfortunately the police were in the right. Honestly I cant see how he "the man shot" would come out alive from the situation especially highly intoxicated on alcohol and cocaine. This will sound cold but if the family was so concerned why did it go this far. At some point they had to notice something just wasnt right when things began to spiral down. This man unfortunately sounds like he lead a unstable lifestyle and this is the result they die from either a shoot out with police, overdose, or murdered from dealer or whatnot. The family I think needs to step back and see where they went wrong and not blame the police that they called for help. The police did their job and now that their son was killed they want someone to blame other than themselves or their son. Or they are looking for trying to get a lawsuit and win some money. Who knows, people are crazy these days.

Ok let me see if I am getting this right...Gunshot wounds on
Left Temporal-Occipital Scalp (I believe that is the top of the left shoulder)
Left Shoulder
Left Lower Chest
Left Flank (thats the butt)
Right arm
Left Forearm
That tells me that all the shots were made at a person standing "bladed" with thier left side forward toward the police.... The same way a right handed shooter would hold a shot gun if raised to shoot at someone. The right arm would be the only part of the right side of the body sticking out and able to be shot from someone standing on the business end of a long gun.
Here is a link to what I am talking about... Imagine the person in the picture rotated so the barrel points to you and you should be able to see what I am saying.

This guy has nobody to blame but himself...
Then again... If he is left handed and shoots left handed my theory is shot to hell

He was intoxicated?
Wasn't that obvious beforehand?
**(and NO , I don't care about this man, he brought it all on himself). The guy had a death wish from the get go.
His mom should have never called the cops on him, what did she think was going to happen?
The cops did the only thing they could do.

The man had a shot gun, what were the police supposed to do. They have a split second to make that call. I have to agree with the police. Quit second guessing them!

I am with the police on this one. They did the right thing. If they had not shot him, what would he have done to them? No one ever knows but at least the two policemen are safe. As are his parents, since they were the ones that called the police to begin with.
