Man survives 40-foot jump from Fremont bridge

Deputies rescued a man who jumped about 40 feet from the Ballville Bridge and landed on the rocky banks instead of the river.

Someone saw the 39-year-old Ballville Township man jumping and called 911 at 6:55 p.m. Saturday.

Sandusky County deputies arrived on the scene four minutes later and found him within five minutes, Deputy Eric Arquette said.

Family: Man shot by deputies was murdered

Tracy and Kim Jones knew their son was troubled.

Bryan Jones, 26, was out of work, he couldn't see his 5-year-old son, and he abused alcohol to deal with his problems.

The young man had been on a two-day drinking binge when -- fed up -- his father called the sheriff's department at 9:46 p.m. Sunday.

Woman raped by two men near Fremont

Two men suspected of abducting and raping a 21-year-old woman are still on the loose, according to police.

The woman was walking down Buckland Avenue in Ballville Township at about 2 a.m. Tuesday to go to a friend's house when two men in an older model dark green vehicle pulled up to her, according to Sandusky County Sheriff's detectives.
