One man was injured Friday afternoon when his Saturn SUV slammed into a utility pole on Ohio 101 in Margaretta Township.

Erie County deputies and Margaretta firefighters were still at the scene at about 4 p.m. The victim was trapped in his vehicle briefly until firefighters could free him.

Ohio 101 remains closed as emergency crews work to clear the area.

Also Friday afternoon, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash in the 8900 block of Ohio 163, just east of Oak Harbor. At least one vehicle overturned in that crash, although dispatchers said any injuries were not life-threatening.

Update on Ohio 101 Crash:

Jeremy Griggs, 26, of Sandusky, was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center Friday, after his Saturn SUV slammed into a utility pole in the 5700 block of Ohio 101.

Erie County deputies charged him with driving under suspension; his license had been suspended on Tuesday for non-payment of child support, according to a deputy’s report.

After being treated at the hospital, meanwhile, Griggs was promptly placed into the custody of Perkins police, who had issued a felony warrant for his arrest earlier this week on a drug abuse charge.

Griggs was taken to the Erie County jail, although by late Friday he was released after posting $5,000 bond.
