One person is dead after a head-on collision involving two vehicles at about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 6, near Country Road 260 in Townsend Township.

A person driving a Buick LeSabre was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer involved in the crash was taken to The Bellevue Hospital.

Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said the Buick, headed east, went left of center and struck the oncoming tractor-trailer.

Authorities closed the road and are diverting:

• Westbound traffic on Ohio 269 in Erie County to Ohio 101.

• Eastbound traffic on Ohio 510 to Ohio 412.

Check back for more information as it becomes available.

Westbound land?

I refuse to drive that road, I take the turnpike if I can. All the road projects and that section of 6 kills so many people and nothing is planned to fix it. Just one continuious turn lane in the center to reduce these accidents will do a lot of good and that takes a minimum of land from either side.

I agree with you. That Route 6 between Sandusky Route 2 and Fremont bypass is one bad stretch of road. It's not that it is engineered wrong it's mostly the folks who drive it. I have more than once seen people who I am sure are going to or coming from work between the two cities just pushing it way over the speed limit.

I knew of one BGSU student who lives in Vermilion use to boast how he would drive that section of the road at 75-80 mgp. Never got picked up to my knowledge. I know SHP and Erie County and Sandusky County Sheriff monitor but can't be there all the time.

Just a few months ago a guy went around me and he had to be doing 75+ mph. I called the Sandusky post on the cell and provided license plate number etc. and then stopped at the post on the way into Sandusky. The dispatcher said to me a trooper had the car stopped on Route 2 West as we spoke. If we see unsafe practices on that road I think it needs to be called into to the police.

There are 2 Townsend Townships...

Thoughts and prayers to those involved and their families!

Robby Adkins was the person that died.

My best friend witnessed the accident. She was the one to call 911

I really dislike that drive.
