50 years ago, 1964: A residence valued at $29,950 was the most expensive project listed among the 26 building permits issued by city officials this week in 1964. The new home was being built at 3701 Lake Street. Total value of permits for the week was $82,875.

25 years ago, 1989: In the Locals: Call now for potato salad and macaroni salad, Log Cabin Restaurant, Bay View; Jam Session at M&M Tavern featuring Flat Broke; Live at The Wine Co., 220 E. Water St., Thin Line; Pork Chop and dressing $4.95 at The Hickory.

10 years ago, 2004: American soldiers were firing so much ammunition that the military's largest supplier of bullets could not keep up. Alliant Techsystems said the company's Army ammunition plant had gone through its fastest increase in production since the Vietnam War.
