50 years ago, 1964: Plans were announced for construction of a $283,000 addition to the Fisher-Titus hospital. The addition was financed entirely by Mr. and Mrs. William Fisher of Detroit, whose total contributions to Fisher-Titus to date were approximately $1.5 million.

25 years ago, 1989: A federal judge gave Vietnam veterans a victory by ruling the government was unfairly rigid in determining if more than 31,000 vets qualified for disability benefits for being exposed to Agent Orange. 

10 years ago, 2004: More than two dozen states said they were planning to sue Brown & Williams Tobacco Corp., accusing them of targeting young people with its Kool cigarette marketing campaign. New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer said images of rappers, disc jockeys and dancers on Kool cigarette packs "appealed to youth."
