50 years ago, 1964: Citizens of Sandusky, jarred for weeks by explosions in the $5.9 million harbor deepening project, fired verbal blasts at a public meeting. They were told blasting was the only way, the insurance company will investigate claims after the project was completed, and local criticism could halt the whole project.

25 years ago, 1989: Two members of a Soviet delegation sent to a tiny Eskimo island to sign a historic request that Moscow and Washington open the border defected and were flown to Anchorage, officials said. The two defectors approached Alaska National Guardsmen and made their intentions clear shortly after arriving on the island.

10 years ago, 2004: Tim Anderson, the football standout from Clyde and Ohio State, was picked by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the NFL Draft. As a Buckeye Anderson recorded 125 tackles - 24.5 for a loss - and 11 sacks.
