50 years ago, 1964: Beginning this week about 2,500 feet of the floor of Sandusky Bay would be torn apart every hour as blasting crews resumed the Sandusky Bay channel project. Each blast would make rubble of a 25-by 100-foot area. Blasting would continue throughout the summer.

25 years ago, 1989: Pope John Paul II, re-enacting Christ's supreme gesture of humility, washed and kissed the feet of 2 priests to commemorate Jesus's Last Supper with his disciples on the eve of the crucifixion.

10 years ago, 2004: Sandusky's waterfront redevelopment project generated more interest than expected. At least 30 bid packages were requested, while 12 would be the norm. The first phase was estimated to cost $1.57 million and included asbestos removal from Chesapeake, Keller and Tricor properties.
