50 years ago, 1964: Teamsters President James R. Hoffa, professing his innocence to the last, was sentenced to eight years in prison for seeking to tamper with a federal court jury. He was fined in addition a total of $10,000.

25 years ago, 1989: One day after being sworn in as coordinator of the federal government's anti-drug effort, William Bennett announced an immediate suspension on the import of AK-47's and similar semiautomatic weapons, which are increasingly favored by criminal drug dealers.

10 years ago, 2004: The deficit swelled to a record $541.8 billion in 2003, according to a government report. The latest snapshot of trade activity showed that the current account deficit last year was 12.7 percent bigger than the previous all-time high deficit of $480.0 billion in 2002.

Jimmy got a pardon from Nixon.

Re: "Hoffa"

A casualty in the battle between the Kennedy crime family and the La Costa Nostra.

Always enjoyed the way Mr. Hoffa told off that privileged lil' snot-nosed Bobby Kennedy during the hearings.

"Kennedy crime family", sure, ok Winnie.

if your name is kennedy, you cant break the law. you can kill without accountability, then be a senator the rest of your worthless, drunken life..

For those who want a look at Teddy's life in the80's and 90's. There was no law suit by Kennedy for not publishing the truth, and you know his family would have if it was not verifiable...

Stop It

" Eventually the group came to include 26 groups or gangs, including Dutch Schultz of New York, Al "Scarface" Capone of Chicago, Max "Boo Boo" Hoff, Sam Lazar and Charles Swartz of Philadelphia, Moe Dalitz, Louis Rothkopf, Morris Kleinman and Sam Tucker of Cleveland, brothers William Joseph "Bugs Bill" Bernstein and Abe Bernstein of Detroit, Charlie Wall of Tampa Bay, Florida, Daniel "Danny" Walsh of Providence, Rhode Island, Cy Nathanson of New England and many more like Joseph Kennedy of Boston, patriarch of the Kennedy Family and the father of former United States President, John F. Kennedy."

Or mikey be like Patty Hearst. Rob a bank with the SLA, then marry the arresting cop & don't do real time. Amazing! Opps.....that's just big $$ regardless if you are D or R. Truth is we the people mistrust most in "authority."

Re: "Kennedy crime family"

"Michael: My father is no different than any powerful man, any man with power, like a president or senator.

Kay Adams: Do you know how naive you sound, Michael? Presidents and senators don't have men killed.

Michael: Oh. Who's being naive, Kay?"
