50 years ago, 1964: The entire white student body boycotted Notasulga High School, Tuskegee, Ala., in the face of impending desegregation, while at nearby Shorter, the integrated high school was closed because of a bomb threat.

25 years ago, 1989: A packet of marijuana was found at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, in the top-secret plutonium vault, one of the most sensitive and secure areas in the entire nuclear weapons lab.

10 years ago, 2004: A chocolate Labrador and a golden retriever were rescued from the ice after walking from Catawba Island to Kelleys Island. The dogs were let out at 8 a.m. and were not coaxed from the ice until 3 p.m. after walking 4-5 miles.
