50 years ago, 1963: The vast Main Concourse of New York's Grand Central Station was turned into the world's largest private ballroom with tables and dance space for 3000 persons. The charity gala would be televised live over CBS-TV as "New Year's Eve with Guy Lombardo." 

25 years ago, 1988: The Sandusky Register honored three people with 1988 Register Awards. Sue Sharpe, Sandusky was honored for her time with Girl Scouts of America, James Mears, Sandusky, for his work with Boy Scouts of America, and Jean Leonard, Bellevue was praised for his energy and selfless work on the Bellevue Heritage Museum. 

10 years ago, 2003: For the U.S. economy, 2004 could turn out to be a banner year. Forecasters believed things were falling into place to produce the strongest economic growth in two decades. Consumer spending was to be bolstered by tax refund checks.
