50 years ago, 1963: A UHF television station was planned for the Sandusky area. UHF, or ultra high frequency, could broadcast high quality pictures and allowed more TV stations on the airwaves. Most television sets were not equipped for UHF reception.
25 years ago, 1988: The National Park Service sought a solution to get rid of the remains of an 80-ton dead blue whale, washed up on the beach in San Francisco. Rejected ideas included towing it back out to sea, burying it whole on the beach, or taking it somewhere for an autopsy.
10 years ago, 2003: A judge's ruling allowed smokers in six northeast Ohio counties to sue tobacco giant Philip Morris USA on a claim they were duped into believing low-tar cigarettes were safer.
