50 years ago, 1963: Two stately elms were felled in the Milan Village Square. The trees were over 85 feet in height, 18 feet in circumference, and estimated to be over 100 years old. That made four trees removed from the square in less than two years, all victims of dutch elm disease.

25 years ago, 1988: The physician of Democratic nominee Michael Dukakis denied rumors that Dukakis had ever been treated for depression. The rumors were thought to have started by a Lyndon LaRouche follower.

10 years ago, 2003: Thousands of Indian citizens dubbed "The Living Dead" beseeched the Indian government to help them. They were all declared dead by unscrupulous relatives who stole their property.
