50 years ago, 1963: The United States, Britain and the Soviet Union initialed a treaty banning nuclear weapons tests in the air, outer space and under water. The historic agreement was initialed after a three-hour meeting at the Foreign Ministry reception hall in Spiridonovka Palace in Moscow.

25 years ago, 1988: A 9-inch piranha was caught by a local fisherman in the Willamette River near Portland Ore. But experts agreed the flesh-eating fish came from a local aquarium, and did not migrate from South America. A 10-inch piranha was caught the previous week in the same area.

10 years ago, 2003: A single-engine Piper plane crashed into a field north of the Old Dutch Tavern on Perkins Avenue after overshooting Sandusky Griffing Airport, sending four people to the hospital with serious injuries. The cause of the crash was unclear.
