50 years ago, 1963: Prehistoric 'monsters' dotted the Marblehead peninsula, 15 models of dinosaurs, neanderthal man, and other creatures of the Mesozoic era populated a 10-acre area near Lakeside. The Prehistoric Forest, an outdoor museum, was opened to the public in the spring of 1963.
25 years ago, 1988: More than 1,000 people, including Democratic delegates, were shut out of the Rev. Jesse Jackson's climatic speech at the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta. Because of overcrowding, Atlanta fire marshall ordered the blockade shortly before the speech was to begin.
10 years ago, 2003: A Medina man hijacked an airplane at Put-in-By Airport on Middle Bass Island. The man entered the empty plane, found the keys and taxied the 1966 Beechcraft airplane down the runway about 40 feet until he struck two vehicles parked at the airport. He fled, but was caught by Put-in-Bay police.
