50 years ago, 1963: British officials were stunned that Queen Elizabeth II was booed by demonstrators protesting the state visit of King Paul and Queen Frederika of Greece. Communists, anarchists and ban-the-bomb demonstrators shouted insults at the royal party.

25 years ago, 1988: Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis chose Sen. Lloyd Bentsen of Texas as his running mate. Bentsen, 67, said it was an honor to be selected to run with Dukakis.

10 years ago, 2003: A random audit by the Agricultural Department showed employees used government credit cards to pay for bartender school, buy Ozzy Osbourne tickets, lingerie, tattoos and make a down payment on a car.
