50 years ago, 1963: Over 1,400 perch were washed up on a 100-yard stretch of private beach at Cedar Point with more in the water. Officials speculated a parasite was the cause, a similar case was reported on the Canadian shore of Lake Erie earlier that month.

25 years ago, 1988: Hundreds of adoring fans greeted fellow Cincinnatian, Roy Rogers, in celebration of the city's bicentennial. It was proclaimed "Roy Rogers Day" in honor of the singing cowboy.

10 years ago, 2003: Eight sport fishermen were arrested on charges of selling more than half a ton of Lake Erie yellow perch to an undercover state officer. They could be fined $2500 each and sentenced to a year in jail.
