50 years ago, 1963: A new air-conditioned exhibit hall and a giant roller coaster were in the planning stages for Cedar Point. Future plans also included a paved, lighted parking lot for 7,000 cars. "Last year our attendance was over 1,500,000. We hope within the next two years to reach 2,200,000" said G. Rider Neff, executive vice president.

25 years ago, 1988: Gov. Michael Dukakis tied with Pee Wee Herman for being most qualified to run the country. That was among children age 5 to 13 years old. Walden Books asked its Kids Club members to vote for the most qualified from a list of names. Reagan won with 33 percent. Dukakis and Herman tied with 8 percent.

10 years ago, 2003: The State of Ohio did such a good job of reintroducing Canada geese 50 years ago that it now has the task of thinning out the population. With a record 120,000 to 180,000 nesting pairs of the non-migratory bird in Ohio, property owners made hundreds of complaints to the state about droppings and aggressive behavior.

Re: "The State of Ohio did such a good job of reintroducing Canada geese 50 years ago,"

Taxpayer funded bureaucratic centralized planning idiocy at it's finest.

Certainly the coyotes appreciated the effort.

Licorice Schtick
