50 years ago, 1963: Showing at Sandusky movie houses this week: "List of Adrian Messenger" starring Kirk Douglas, "Dr. No" starring Sean Connery, and two science fiction hits, "The Day of the Triffids," and "The Day Mars Invaded Earth."

25 years ago, 1988: A painting by Sandusky resident Paul Coleman entitled "Atomic Bob and the Small Wind" won a place in the Cleveland Museum of Art's 1988 May Show. The May Show was a juried exhibit open to artists living in the Cleveland area. In 1988 there were 2,701 entries, of which only 211 items were accepted.

10 years ago, 2003: Gasoline prices rose though out the area. The BP station on Hayes Avenue raised their prices from $1.49 per gallon to $1.60 per gallon, A.J.'s Sunoco on Columbus Avenue raised prices to $1.59 per gallon, and the Shell station on Perkins Avenue went up 10 cents per gallon.

Triffids - great old fun movie.

Who knew that ya just had to pee on 'em? :)

I was kind of hoping for a look at Coleman's "Atomic Bob and the Small Wind"

Ya got my curiosity up (Google search):

The title sounded like an underground comic. :)

Gas hit it historic high of over $4 in 2008. The price has been more or less flat overall, albeit somewhat volatile (har har) for about two years.

Financial crisis - assets were looking for value in commodities. See the price of gold as well.

Now, we're back to the economy being monetary driven – thank the Federal Resv.
