Fifty, 25 and 10 years ago

50 years ago, 1963: A bolt of lightning knocked out the radio facilities of the Norwalk post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol for two hours. The bolt entered the radio room like a pistol shot, Sgt. Frank Nedveski reported. He first thought someone had accidentally discharged a gun.

25 years ago, 1988: About 70 students of Sandusky’s Adams Junior High School participated in the school’s first “Jump Rope for Heart” program to raise money for the American Heart Association. The students took turns jumping in groups for about three hours.

10 years ago, 2003: A gas line in Cold Creek was ruptured during a dredging project re-routing traffic on Venice Road near Fremont Avenue for eight hours as Sandusky Fire Department secured the scene. The gas was not shut off, and no one was injured. The broken gas line caused water to bubble and spray into the air like a small fountain.
