It was just after noon when Clinton Scott, 39, of Judy Lane, ran from the store after a security officer suspected he was trying to steal a phone, according to a Perkins police report.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper soon spotted Scott near a Strub Road church. Scott ran when the trooper tried to talk with him, the report said, and was later seen running into a patch of woods near Eats ’n Treats. As officers set up a perimeter, Scott waded into a nearby retention pond.

Only when he tripped and fell into the water did Scott give himself up. He was charged with obstruction and released.

Scott then asked the officer to drive him home, but was told to find a different ride because his clothes were wet and muddy, the report said.
