Michael Gish, 39, and his wife, Tracy Gish, 37, of Maple Street, were each charged with felony theft, possession of criminal tools and tampering with evidence. Michael Gish was also charged with resisting arrest, obstruction and drug possession.
It was shortly before noon when the department store’s security officer stopped the couple as they tried to leave with a cart full of clothing, according to a Perkins police report. Tracy Gish made a run for it, but threw her hands up in surrender when she was met by a waiting Perkins police officer outside the store, the report said.
Michael Gish, meanwhile, ran away from officers inside the store, knocking over a display before he began to fall and was taken down by officers, the report said. The husband and wife tried to blame each other for the thefts, the report said.
Items in the cart totaled more than $1,000. Officers also located numerous items inside the couple’s car but could not determine if they were stolen, the report said.
Tracy Gish has since been released from the Erie County jail, but Michael remains there on $30,000 bond.
