Dozens of family members, friends and former classmates gathered at Shawnee Elementary School in Huron on Saturday afternoon for a tree dedication ceremony in honor and memory of the late Tanny Vonthron.

Vonthron, known by many for her ever cheery attitude and her love of yellow smiley faces, was on every ones mind at the event as they entered the playground area and were met by a giant yellow smile painted on the ground by volunteers.

Smiley face balloons were handed out to all in attendance before a few heartfelt words were said by friends, classmates and family members next to a tree donated by members of the Huron High School Class of 1992, of which Tanny was part of. The dedication ended with the many yellow biodegradable balloons being released into the sunny sky by all those in attendance.
