The fifth-grade and sixth-grade Academic Challenge teams from seven Erie County districts — Edison, Firelands, Huron, Margaretta, Perkins, Sandusky and Sandusky Central Catholic — competed in their final matches March 14 at Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene.

Firelands took first place in the fifth-grade competition (71 points), with Perkins placing second (54 points) and Sandusky placing third (53 points) in the match. Perkins scored the most overall points this season to advance to the Tri-County Championship Meet for Erie County on May 19 at BGSU Firelands.

Huron took first place in the sixth-grade competition (60 points), with Perkins placing second (57 points) and Firelands placing third (46 points) in the match. Huron scored the most overall points this season to advance to the Tri-County Championship Meet.

This is the first year Firelands Schools has participated in the Academic Challenge.

The final match for seventh-grade and eighth-grade Academic Challenge teams in Erie County will be May 14, a rescheduled date because of inclement weather.
