Jim Gunner and Ed Kurt, superintendents at Perkins Schools and Margaretta Schools, respectively, are vying to be superintendent at Findlay Schools, according to the Findlay Courier.

An article posted to the Courier's website Thursday lists Gunner and Kurt as two of 10 applicants seeking the job.

When contacted Thursday, Kurt said he submitted an application a few weeks ago. The application process ended Oct. 25.

"It's an opportunity I'm exploring," Kurt said. "I'm very happy where I'm at. We've accomplished a lot and there's still a lot to accomplish, but I'm looking into that opportunity."

Gunner did not return a call Thursday evening seeking comment.

Findlay school board members hope to announce their selection in late December, according to the Courier. Findlay Schools superintendent Dean Wittwer is retiring at the end of the current school year.

Public meetings are always so great. Caught these two superintendents looking for a job. You can't keep anything a secret. There is always someone to find out exactly what is going on. Everyone must think the average taxpayer is stupid and doesn't know what is going on under their noses. There is always someone around to spill the beans.

bao

i was told back in september to expect an announcement like this just before the next levy, of course i didnt believe it. should the levy pass, expect another article "gunner backs out of running for findlay position"

fifteenthgreen

Either pass or fail, he needs to resign from leading this district.

WhatTheHeck

I don't live in the area any longer and boy am I glad I don't have to put up with the snooty crowd there anymore.

Strong Schools ...

I don't know why people in this community has lost their pride. We are the school district of choice! That says a lot about our schools. Vote yes and support the students in November!

Just Thinkin

Gunner has Perkins future on his mind! Crow goes great with whine eat away Gunner fans, it is time to fire him now !! you want levy's passed then do what the voter's ask

bobshumway92

Does anyone know of anywhere else Gunner can apply? Let's help him in his search.

donutshopguy

My understanding is that Mr. Kurt was given a new 5 year contract with 2 years remaining on his present contract by the school board in Margaretta.

Applying for a new job does not show appreciation or loyalty to those you work for and represent.

Doug7880

DSG you are correct. I was in the meeting when the new contract was voted on. Only 1 board member voted against the contract.

Strong Schools ...

Your family member just got a new job in another school district and they still support Perkins. Don't be a hypocrite! Vote yes in November and support the students!

icuthair

Well hopefully we get some new blood on the BOE and they'll get rid of Ed Kurt and his bonuses for being a Superintendent, not doing any actual teaching!

goodtime1212

Cant wait to see if Gunner gets the job and see if he moves to the district to pay taxes.

Nemesis

That's why he wants the job - he'll make a killing on mileage!

fifteenthgreen

Plus $140,000 per the last Findlay Supt.!

Strong Schools ...

And people think Gunner makes too much now. He does not get paid what he is worth. Vote yes in November and support the students!

I think those that don't want consolidation with Sandusky Schools are ignoring the possibilities of the powerful school system that could be had in the Sandusky area.

Certainly, the sports teams would be powerful. With Coach Jayson's leadership, the Blue Streaks (yes, forget about it Pirate fans....there is too much history there to use your nickname) would be restored to previous glory in Division 1 football, not to mention how successful all the other sports would be.

And, consolidation would be great for the Perkins kids in terms of academics....there would be no more discussion of antiquated buildings, etc. A new, consolidated school district would be able to use the cost savings to build a sparkling new Sandusky High School where the Perkins kids could learn in safety....

A win-win, I say. Get on board Pirates!

fifteenthgreen

Why would you want to merge with Perkins, gyro and what the hell does athletics have to do with anything? That was sadly, your first emphasis. Last I checked, Sandusky would benefit from an athletic merger. You know why......because all of Sandusky's athletes have jumped the Perkins Avenue line and are already "merged" into the Perkins system thus the partial reason for this mess.

Both are in the toilet academically!

gyrocartfluffikins

fifteen, I really appreciate your comments on this situation. It's good to have vigorous discussion back and forth between community members....PERKINS community members. I attended the Perkins School System, so I love the black and red, AND the Big Blue. I don't see an imaginary boundary between the two systems. I see opportunity.

And while the athletic programs of both school systems can stand on their own, I think you have to be excited by the possibilities of a combined group.

Subtle

Merging the two districts would either cost the citizens of Perkins $5,732 per student to open enroll them or we would have to pay the Sandusky tax rate that is 13.6 mills higher than we currently pay (http://perkinslevy.org/content/s...)

Makes the current 6.73 mill proposal look like quite a deal.

Strong Schools ...

Perkins has great academics. They need improvements in two areas...that does not make the whole district bad. Get the facts on the levy website and vote yes in November!

I don't understand why the people of Sandusky are always talking about merging with Perkins, because the people of Perkins want no part of that.
Anyway, this Perkins situation is a circus, and I'm very glad to see the Head CLOWN getting ready to leave!

gyrocartfluffikins

Well, I'm Perkins born and bred, not Sandusky, so I don't get your point. I think a fine school system could be made in the merger. I'm thinking of all the children of the 44870.

Rosa

Gyro, you are correct, I have 2 children, one graduated from SHS and one gradutated from PHS and both are doing equally well. I am all for merging.

fifteenthgreen

Why not! I agree. Many of the Sandusky students have already merged. Sandusky has the school size needed, as well. Rosa, how many students used to attend SHS in the 70's and 80's? I'm curious. People really don't give that system enough credit. You're going to have problem children in any district. Even combined, it wouldn't be close to the top 20 statewide in school district size!

Bherrle

I have absolutely no problem with Jim applying for the Findlay position. I do not feel betrayed at all. And I do not feel that it detracts at all from the long term objectives the BOE and Jim have been trying the accomplish.

For instance, whether we build new facilities or renovate the current ones, they will be here long after Jim and the current BOE members are gone.

I'm sorry, but the NO Voters are showing that they will complain and be negative no matter what. You want him gone, and then you criticize the fact that he applied somewhere else? How do you explain that rationally?? I can't help but sit back and laugh at the hipocracy being displayed.

I support Jim and the current BOE because of their ideas and plan. Because it's plan is what is best, overall, for everyone, in the long term. It's time to stop thinking short term, and think about the future.

fifteenthgreen

Oh boy, now it's Jim and not Dr. Gunner! Take me to your leader, bherrle. Who is it and why should I give them my vote of confidence? Be a leader and not a follower, Brad!!!

observer

^^^^ I love how he calls them...............Jim.............and..........Terry............like they're his best buddies. Did you guys have a "sleep over" last night?

I tell you, Bherrle, you look more ridiculous with every post!

BTW, it H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-S-Y, not........hipocracy. :)

So, you moving to Findlay anytime soon, Bherrle?

bobshumway92

B Hurlllll

Bherrle

Their names are Jim, and Terry. And Brian, and Brad, and Andy, and Matt.

No, we did not have a sleep over, but that's pretty funny.

Thanks for spelling correction, typing fast this morning, I have a lot going on outside of the Sandusky Register Comment world.

No - not moving to Findlay.
