This little piggy took a ride in a police car

In a police report, Officer James Ommert described the animal as a “black and white male Vietnamese pot-bellied pig, approximately 60 pounds, (with a) friendly disposition.”

The suspect had a curly tail, four hooves and a wrinkly little nose.

Sandusky police received a report of a “pig at large” Monday night on the city’s west end. Officers were called to Wilson Street around 10 p.m. after Nick Pyles, 34, came across a loose pot-bellied pig near his home.

In a police report, Officer James Ommert described the animal as a “black and white male Vietnamese pot-bellied pig, approximately 60 pounds, (with a) friendly disposition.”

Pyles found the animal roaming the neighborhood after his dog “went nuts” when he let him outside, the report said.

When Ommert and Officer Evan Estep responded to the call, they found Pyles walking the pig down the boulevard.

Concerned that the animal might wander into the roadway, they loaded him into the back of a police cruiser.

But Ommert and Estep soon encountered a dilemma: Where could the pig stay the night?

The Erie County Dog Pound couldn’t accommodate him, and no one at Back to the Wild answered the phone due to the late hour.

They instead reached out to Michael and Kristi Hermes, who own a farm on Mason Road. They agreed to take the pig in until hisowner was found.

As of Tuesday night, the pig was still at Hermes’ Farm, because no one had yet come forward to claim him, Sandusky police Lt. Mike Campbell said.

Officers are convinced the pig is someone’s pet, because he smelled of cat litter when he was found. But unfortunately, no licenses or registration are required for pet pigs, Campbell said, so there’s no way to track down his owner.

Anyone with details on the pig’s family should call Sandusky police at 419-627-5863.

I'm surprised a few of our resident immigrant-haters on these boards aren't screaming for the pig to be deported back to Vietnam. :}
