“He’s been terrorizing women, going into their residences whenever he feels he wants to, assaulting them, intimidating them”

With a little help from their police dog, Sandusky officers finally caught up to a man wanted on multiple felony warrants.

Tywuan Davis, 30, of the 1000 block of Camp St., was arrested Wednesday afternoon on warrants for aggravated burglary, assault, aggravated menacing, domestic violence, theft, disrupting public service, criminal damaging, intimidation of a crime victim and driving under suspension.

He also landed four additional charges as officers took him into custody: weapons under disability, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest and obstruction.

Davis’ alleged crime spree began in early January, and he continued to rack up charges since, Sandusky police Detective Dana Newell said.

“He’s been terrorizing women, going into their residences whenever he feels he wants to, assaulting them, intimidating them” Newell said.

The home invasions weren’t random, police said. Davis allegedly victimized women he knew or had dated.

During a Feb. 10 break-in, he allegedly punched through a woman’s window to enter the home, assaulting her with a broken table, cooking pot and shattered drinking glasses.

Officers had been searching for Davis for about two months, but they recently began hearing he was out for blood — officers’ or his own.

“We started getting calls, basically people telling us to be careful when we do encounter him because he had a loaded firearm,” Newell said. “He was indicating he didn’t want to go back to prison and that he was going to shoot it out with the police”

Every time investigators would get a tip on Davis’ whereabouts, he’d be gone before they arrived.

On Wednesday, they received yet another tip.

“We wanted to jump on it right then and there, so we grabbed up our manpower and conducted surveillance on the area” Newell said.

About 10 officers lied in wait, watching as Davis pulled a van into a lot at Hancock and Washington streets at about 1:30 p.m.

When police realized there were children in Davis’ van, they waited until he walked away from the vehicle, in case any shots were fired, Newell said.

Officers sprang into action and ordered Davis to the ground. Rather than comply, Davis reached for his waistband and tried to run, Newell said.

Officers set loose Justice, the department’s police dog, which charged Davis and bit him a few times before taking him to the ground. The dog sustained a small cut to his nose.

After officers cuffed Davis, they found a cocked and loaded.22-caliber handgun in his pant leg.

He was taken to the Erie County jail, where he remains without bond.

“We and the people in the community were tired of him terrorizing people,” Newell said of Davis. “It was time for him to go”

super clean

About time what a big man to beat on them women

Good dog. Hope he got a good bite in the groin.

If you know (or suspect) someone may be in an abusive situation:
Be supportive, but do not tell the victim what to do. Give them options to help them make their own decisions. If they decide to go to a shelter, or call a hotline, give them the number and let them make the call to 419-626-2200. Safe Harbour Domestic Violence Shelter can help.

Great job Justice! Hope he got extra treats!!!

Tefelhunden. Ja!

Good job SPD and Justice 4 getting this piece of GARBAGE of the streets. Now ladies 4 future cases with GARBAGE like this. Get a conceiled weapons permit. And STAND UR DANG GROUND! This story would of had a better ending if this GARBAGE while reaching for his waistband would of been SHOT and EXPIRED on the scene. But good job SPD!!!

Darwin's choice

The Officers need to start carrying a squirt bottle of A-1 sauce to hose down these criminals...then turn the dog loose!
