A Sandusky man was arrested for leaving two small children out in the cold Thursday morning.

Travis Terrell, 48, 1800 block Remington Ave., was charged with two counts child endangering. Officers responded to a home in the 200 block of Lawrence St. at about 10:30 a.m. after a neighbor noticed two girls standing on the sidewalk, according to a Sandusky police report.

The neighbor yelled for the girls’ mother inside her home, but when she got no response, she grabbed a fresh diaper and took the girls into her own home, the report said.

One of the children’s diapers appeared as if it had partially frozen in the 26-degree conditions, the report said.

After about 20 minutes, Terrell emerged, asking where the children were. He later told police the girls should have known better than to leave the house, stating he was only gone for six minutes, the report said.

Officers spoke to the girls’ mother, who was grocery shopping at the time. She wanted charges filed against Terrell, and asked that he stay away from her home, the report said. Officers also informed social workers of the incident.
