Sandusky police pulled over a reckless driver early Sunday morning, but soon learned she was rushing a friend to the hospital after he was struck with a beer bottle at DJ’s Sports Bar.

As officers were rushing to the bar in response to a fight which had spilled out into the parking lot around 4:30 a.m., they saw a car fly by at 64 mph, according to a Sandusky police report.

The car passed another vehicle and ran a red light, but stopped on Scott Street when an officer activated his lights, the report said.

The driver opened her door and told officers of the emergency. Her passenger, a 20-year-old Fallen Timber Drive man, was in the back seat, covered in blood.

Officers summoned an ambulance, and the man was whisked off to Firelands Regional Medical Center. Before he left, he told police a very large fight broke out inside DJ’s, then he felt a bottle break over his head, the report said.

Neither the man or woman gave further details. Officers did not charge the woman, as she was driving to the emergency room, and instead passed the case on to the prosecutor’s office so they could determine if charges were warranted.
