City officials recently narrowed down a list of about 30 applicants to 13 qualified candidates all vying for the vacant fire chief’s position.
Among the finalists from this batch: Dave Degnan, Jim Green and Matt Lesch, all captains for Sandusky fire.
“I believe that we have a fairly decent pool,” city commissioner Naomi Twine said. Twine’s leading a committee to select the next fire chief. By July, the committee aims to select a trio of finalists from this eligible batch.
From there, the city manager — another vacant position simultaneously going through its own search process — will select a new chief from among the three finalists. The city manager will likely be hired sometime later this month.
The fire chief’s position opened up earlier this month when Paul Ricci retired. City officials appointed Green to serve as interim fire chief until a permanent successor is chosen.
Ricci made about $95,000 in take-home pay in 2013. The annual pay range advertised for this position hovers between $69,000 and $105,000.
