And do you not think they have it? I take it you don't. The person who put the ad out was the human resources department of the city of Sandusky. So do THEY know the City Charter. The city charter's ENTIRE line for the police criteria for chief says this" any active full time law enforcement officer with not less than ten (10) years of prior active full time law enforcement service, and holding the permananent rank of Lieutenant or higher, as of the date o the application of said officer hereunder, shall be qualifed and eligible to so apply and to be considered for appointment in relation to a vacancy in the position of office of Chief of the Department or Division of Police".

That is the EXTENT of this big deal of the charter....so I don't know what everyone is making a fuss about. That is hardly a big deal. Some criteria. 10 years, still working and that's it? Wow. Not a hard decision to make. What they ran into was people applying who FIT that description.

I could have someone chosen out of 40 applications in 5 days or less, with NO problem. BY MYSELF.

Me too. Alas, the temperament of your Commissioners working together (so to speak), really have need of some willingness to do so. It seems everybody that sits at that table is playing a different sport.

wiredmama222

I agree. Maybe it is time to systematically start removing them one by one until the right mix is achieved to create the perfect atmosphere of cooperation. Maybe THEN they will get the message....you know how that works, right? take one away, replace it. Take two away, replace it, then three and so on until they learn? that sometimes works after one or two.

I totally agree with you Wiredmama! It does seem like Westerhold and his staff will do anything to create "drama" and "stories" from nothing. I am really tired of him tearing this City apart, creating issues where none exist, and choosing to support "leaders" like Cole. SHE (and Wesley) are really the problems with the Commission.

I certainly hope people commenting on this "article" have actually read the report. You will see that when this issue came about, there wasn't even mention of the City Charter, yet now it has become the focus of every slanted Register story. If you read the report and the minutes from the meeting where the "issue" was first brought to light, you'll see that Diedre and Wesley were claming the had phone calls with people who heard rumors that "Perkins residents need not apply." Cole was then called out for promising Matthews he'd be the next Sandusky Police Chief - as she stated to two Commissioners. And now all of a sudden it's become an issue regarding the Charter? Give me a break!

Diedre and Wesley should learn when to keep their mouth's shut when it comes to hearing rumors. THEY are the ones who are holding up the process and unnecessarily spending taxpayers money on reports...all because (thankfully!) their guy wasn't a finalist.

wiredmama222

AMEN...well said, well written and right on point. You got it sister!!!!

LOL. Yosarian sitting in the tree naked...

wiredmama222

For those of you who think you can add assistance to this problem, why not show up at the committee meeting for the police chief and see what is going on. Maybe that is the answer. I know I am going to. I want to see this for myself.

God Of Thunder

IMATALOSS is right...Lang wasn't active when they hired him, so what's the difference...
It doesn't matter, if the old applicants didn't pull their applications, then the current ones will, once they see how much turmoil this city is in, and I'm not talking about the murders and drugs, and the little punk kids running around wreaking havoc, I'm talking about how no one in city hall can get along and point fingers at each other and spend so much unnecessary money... Who would want to be involved in all of that??

wiredmama222

You and IMATALOSS have a valid point. And that probably goes for business that would have come here as well. And who do we have to thank for all of this?

The commissioners, the Sandusky Register and a hand full of people who just cannot stand to see people get along? (I could name the names of those who continually rile things up around here).

So what can the rest of the city residents do? Hang them all? Get rid of the people who cause the problems? What? Absolutely nothing. They hold the cards and control the press. What do you suggest the rest of we "poor folk" do in a situation where we have no pull, money or power to do anything to change the situation? I would love to know and love to help.

richrs

Yes he was. Read my previous post on this. Jim Lang was employed as the chief ranger for Erie Metro-Parks. Which is a law enforcement position.

wiredmama222

So what are you saying, keep him? I don't think so. I would love to see someone come in who knows what to do, strong and capable that can impliment that study and really get that department in shape. Really.

richrs

@ Wiredmama
If you meant me. No I think that young blood is needed for the city. I was just trying to clarify a point on Lang's eligibility when he was hired. I wish the city the best of luck. I know if I was looking for a top cop spot Sandusky is the last place I would look. To much confusion on the commssion and a non-existant city manager.

wiredmama222

richrs....no, I should start writing to whom I am speaking. This new system gets confusing, doesn't it. I agree that if anyone was looking for a top cop spot, with all our confusion, no one would really look here. We don't have the best rep in the state. I agree with all you say because its true. If the commissioners showed more continuity instead of trying to be the ONLY one working it, that might be a good start, but they don't work that way. Every man or woman for themselves seems to be how they work. Sad but true. They just don't show any cooperation. And our city manager gets buffaloed at every turn. She can't do anything. I do know she has people against her....that is sad. Again, from the commissioners who fight her tooth and nail. So if anyone really checks US out they wouldn't want to work here anyway. It will take a STRONG person to be the chief of police. Someone who can stand up to all this.

And frankly we need stronger and more compliant and 'work together" commissioners who want to cooperate as a team. Right now we don't have that either. I dont know if they exist truthfully.

oldpirate

Most often reports investigating the person paying the bill aren't very critical. I never expected the committee to say anything other than what they did. We will never know what really went on.

wiredmama222

old pirate....what do you mean?

pavedparadise

Cukoo Cukoo

wiredmama222

Alright....I take it to mean you think I am a cukoo! If so, why? I will love hearing your answer to this one. Be specific. And don't answer with our two dumb words again. Just answer the question.

I hope the commissioners explain the next plan in full Monday night. I spoke with Commissioner Brown and left with more questions about the deadline.

wiredmama222

Well, did you get your answers?
