The 17-year-old Peterson Lane boy was charged with felony burglary, attempted theft and escape. He was also charged with misdemeanor theft and underage tobacco possession.
A Sunset Lane woman returned home around 1 p.m. Friday and knew something was off when she spotted a gun on the counter, according to a Perkins police report.
She then found the boy upstairs behind a curtain with a wine bottle in hand. He said her daughter invited him over, even though she doesn’t have one, then walked out the back door and began to run, police said.
The woman later found money and gift cards missing, according to the report, but all of her weapons appeared accounted for.
Officers found the boy running nearby, and the woman identified him as the one who had been in her home. He was taken to the police station but fled as officers were placing him in a cruiser, Perkins police Lt. Edward Hastings said.
Officers caught up to him about 100 yards away and took him to the Erie County Juvenile Detention Home.
