Guests   can gobble all-you-can-eat pancakes and give funds to a trio of worthy causes at a longtime community fundraiser Saturday.

The three efforts the annual Sandusky Lions Club pancake breakfast will benefit this year:

•The Erie County Blind Fund, which supports local people in need of eye exams and glasses who cannot afford them.

•The Perkins High School band, to purchase new uniforms.

•The Fourth Grade Foresters program, which provides local students with trees near Arbor Day. Only proceeds from an indoorgarage and bake sale at the breakfast will go toward this effort.

Pancake breakfasts cost $6 a person and will be served 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, on the corner of East Perkins Avenue and Mills Street. The event also includes children’s games.

WHERE: St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2211 Mills St., Sandusky

This is the first year the Sandusky Lions Club has supported Perkins High School with its annual fundraiser.

“The last two years, we’ve partnered with the Sandusky High School choral department, but the committee suggested we spread it around and team up with a different school each year,” said John Straziuso, the club’s pancake breakfast chairman.

Straziuso has planned the event for the past few years, with the assistance of Craig Hecht, the club’s vice president and fundraiser coordinator, and other members.

Perkins High School’s band uniforms are about 15 years old and likely beyond repair, as a uniform’s average lifespan is about 10 years, band director John Kustec said. The music department hopes to purchase the new duds by fall 2015, and is already kicking off fundraisers for the cause.

“We’re very grateful (the club) is allowing us to be a part of this and including us in their benefit” Kustec said. “We thank them immensely for thinking of us”
