Workers at KBI were evacuated from the facility for a brief spell late Friday after a machine caught fire.

Perkins firefighters were dispatched to the Hayes Avenue plant at about 10:20 p.m., arriving to find the machine burning. They used foam to quickly snuff the flames.

Firefighters said the fire started when oil in the heat-treating machine somehow ignited. Only a handful of workers were in the facility, given the holiday weekend.

No one was injured, although crews had to evacuate part of the building because of heavy smoke from burning oil. They planned to let everyone back in after clearing the area.

Margaretta firefighters were also called to the scene to provide mutual aid.
