Six fraternity members at the University of Akron were charged with hazing a pledge by beating him with paddles.

University police said a 22-year-old man told investigators he went to a hospital after being beaten over multiple nights. The accuser said the beatings didn’t stop even after he bled through his pants.

Police on Thursday filed misdemeanor assault and hazing charges against the six members of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. A police report said the abuse happened over three weeks in January during the fraternity’s pledge process.

Some of the suspects denied the man had been beaten and blamed another fraternity for spreading the allegations.

Officials at the university said they shut down the fraternity and don’t tolerate hazing.

Sounds good to me. These are 19 - 22 yo adults. They tell us they can handle maturity and what it requires. So lets handle the consequences of not being mature that well might and should land them in jail.
