Democrats push for more open, accountable government

Ohio House Democrats are advocating a package of proposals they say would make state government more accessible and accountable.
Associated Press
Oct 30, 2013

The minority lawmakers on Tuesday called Ohio’s government dysfunctional.

They noted the state fell well below the national average on the Better Government Association’s “integrity index” and got a nearly-failing grade in the Georgia Public Interest Research Group’s review of spending transparency.

Democrats proposed expanding disclosure and reporting requirements for the private nonprofit job-creation office JobsOhio and the state tax-credit authority.

They’d also revise Ohio’s redistricting process, require legislative committees to be broadcast, and make the state watchdog independent.

Really Democrats?????

How's that Obamacre (correct spelling) working for you all??

Democrats proposing "disclosure"????? For anything???

First thing i thought also. They are so bad. Of course the register will run with it

The Big Dog's back

This is in Ohio morons.

Darwin's choice

Sorry big dog, all democrats are morons! Even from Ohio! Especially you!

Like that Darwin!

Pterocarya frax...

That says a lot about you too.

Since you seem to have had your feathers's my reason for democrat/displeasure, maybe if you can comprehend this, you'll agree:
Your hospital Medicare admittance has just changed under Obama Care. You must be admitted by your primary Physician in order for Medicare to pay for it! If you are admitted by an emergency room doctor it is treated as outpatient care where hospital costs are not covered. This is only the tip of the iceberg for Obama Care. Just wait to see what happen in this year and
YOU ARE NOT GOING TO LIKE THIS... At age 76 when you most need it most, you are not eligible for cancer treatment * see page 272 What Nancy Pelosi didn't want us to know until after the healthcare bill was passed. Remember she said, "We have to pass the Bill so that we can see what's in it." Well, here it is.
Judge Kithil of Marble Falls , TX - highlighted the most egregious pages of HB3200 Please read this....... especially the reference to pages 58 & 59
** Page 50/section 152: The bill will provide insurance to all non-U.S.residents, even if they are here illegally.
** Page 58 and 59: The government will have real-time access to an individual's bank account and will have the authority to make electronic fund transfers from those accounts.
** Page 65/section 164: The plan will be subsidized by the government (taxpayers) for all union members, union retirees and for community organizations (such as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now - ACORN).
** Page 203/line 14-15: The tax imposed under this section will not be treated as a tax.
(How could anybody in their right mind come up with that?)
** Page 241 and 253: Doctors will all be paid the same regardless of specialty, and the government will set all doctors' fees. This is what they do in Sweden too. I know because Alf's daughter Ann is an OBGYN, and her husband, Thorsten, is a surgeon.........
** Page 272. section 1145: Cancer hospital will ration care according to the patient's age.
** Page 317 and 321: The government will impose a prohibition on hospital expansion; however, communities may petition for an exception.
** Page 425, line 4-12: The government mandates advance-care planning consultations. Those on Social Security will be required to attend an "end-of-life planning" seminar every five years. (Death counseling..)
** Page 429, line 13-25: The government will specify which doctors can write an end-of-life order.
HAD ENOUGH???? Judge Kithil then goes on to identify:
"Finally, it is specifically stated that this bill will not apply to members of Congress.
No wonder they did not see the need to read it....doesn't apply to them!!!

You should really look into this piece of crap law!

Some people choose to believe the hysteria that is coming from the rightwing, which, of course, is all out of proportion with what is actually happening. There is a problem with the website, and the problem is being addressed. Not sure why Republicans think everything must be a conspiracy and why everything must be investigated.

Instead of listening to the usual gloom, doom and lies from the right (and let's face it, that's what they are known for), why not do the sensible thing: reserve judgement until it goes into effect. We don't declare a winner in a baseball game during pregame warmups, do we?

There is something wrong with a man when faced with his shortcomings, he still refuses to see.

You are an incredible cheerleader! The Titanic is going down, but you just keep on bailing with your teaspoon......

Oh, I completely agree. The Republican brand is marked by infighting and out-of-control teapartiers, lost the gov't shutdown battle. The only people who think Obamacare is a "ship going down" are the people on one side of the aisle, who have a vested interest in Obamacare failing.

The only thing ACTUALLY going down is the federal deficit. I'm sure it will be a complete surprise to rightwing folks, but the U.S. Budget deficit is now at $680 billion, dropping below $1 trillion for the first time in 5 years. It's equivalent to 4.1% of the economy's total output, down from a peak of 10.1% shortly after Obama took over. Spending under Obama has increased at 1/4 the rate it did under Bush II. You won't hear that on Fox or Mark Levin, of course...

One phrase I hear the rightwing shoutfest talkshow hosts use over and over is that "Obamacare is a train wreck", which is just silly. For a far better example of "train wreck", take a closer look at the U.S. economy after the 2008 Bush Recession.

"The only thing ACTUALLY going down is the federal deficit. The deficit is also forecast by everybody to go up 10%+ from $680 billion to $744 billion next year. Kind of wipes out the happy smile.

Yes it is just math. In 2008 Bush's last year in office the deficit that year was $458 Billion. Obama and the democrat controlled Congress then passed its only budget in 2009. We had a $1.413 Trillion dollar deficit. 2010 it was $1.249 Trillion, 2011, $1.300 Trillion, 2012, $1.087 Trillion, and it fell to $680 Billion.

It is also Math that Obama more than tripled tripled the deficit before cutting it in half, while still keeping it 50% higher than Bush's highest year deficit. Obama's lowest deficit is also nearly 4 times higher than Bush's lowest deficit. Obama, in 4 years tripled bushes deficit spending ... form his entire 8 years (debt, debt its the deficits added from a number of years) It all depends on how you look at the math, and how you present it, meaning what you prefer to leave out. Ain't math a wonderful thing?

Darwin's choice

Bazinga!!!!! Grumpy 1, coasterfan 0

Must not have been a "math" teacher, eh, coasterfan?????

More democrat/blind follower fail!

That's odd. From where I'm sitting, the only morons are poor and middle-class Americans who vote Republican, on the erroneous belief that GOP party leaders care about anyone except the 1%. At least we Democrats vote for people who obviously ARE in our corner...

Darwin's choice

With Obama in your corner, and you brag about the failure's?

How are the poll numbers today for the failure in chief? I'll give you help looking....LOWEST ever!

Be proud democrat!

Darwin...the only poll that matters is the 2012 election. Romney and the conservative ideal were soundly defeated, and Obama was re-elected while running on a pro-Obamacare platform. Since then, the Republican brand has taken further hits - it's not a secret that a majority of Americans correctly blamed the GOP for the recent gov't shutdown.

If you want to talk about low poll numbers that is fine with me, since your party's poll numbers are at historic lows, about 15-20 points below Obama's... I AM a proud Democrat. Once AGAIN, we're living through an era in which a GOP president screwed up the economy, and in which the GOP constantly complains that the subsequent Democrat president isn't able to fix the mess quickly enough, even as they undermine his every effort to do so. I'm proud that my party is the one that makes things better, fixing the goofups of the other party.

Darwin's choice

" I'm proud that my party is the one that makes things better"

That is your all time BEST post! You put the "mor" in moron!!

Hehe, A Democrat talking about Transparency. It isn't April 1st already is it?

2cents's picture

Oh! The open checkbook initiative. Sounds like a responsible plan.

Pterocarya frax...

Dear Darwin:

1) My feathers weren't ruffled at all. I was just pointing out that anyone that thinks that all Democrats (or Republicans) are morons, is in fact, a moron. I know some Reublicans, and some Democrats that are morons, but I would NEVER make a statement that all of one side are morons, because that would be moronic.

2) Do you ever fact check this crap you copy and paste? I didn't think so. The stuff you are allegedly quoting from Judge Kithil is sort of, but not really from HR 3200, a failed bill. Obamacare, as your ilk started calling it is actually HR 3590. Next, some of it is made up and other parts are just wrong, and by the way, Judge Kithil didn't even write it.

I tried to quote Wikipedia but the spam filter wouldn't let me. I figure if it is good enough for Rand Paul to plagiarize, then it should be good enough for you to learn from.

Zing! Score: Pterocarya 1, Darwin 0
Slam dunk.

Darwin's choice

Ruffled everyone's feathers!

Score: Darwin 1, coasterfan and the other cheerleaders,ZERO, like the number of Oregon sign-ups for Obamacare that Obama was bragging about yesterday. Only, some one on his arrogant staff forgot to inform the clueless leader that there were no sign-ups at all for Oregon. Zero, none there's a fact for you.

And yet, more failure by Obama.....

Darwin's choice

"American's are to stupid to choose for themselves...."

This is the party that LOCKED the door when meeting about Obama Care and would not let reporters in or Representatives that were not Democrats.
Pure liars, lying again because its election time and the ignorant will believe them.

Darwin's choice

Obama compared to ???? Some nazi?

Nothing here though!!

Why is this government so worried that they bought billions of rounds of ammunition and their giving it to sectors of the government that isn't in law enforcement? Could it be they KNOW they are trampling our constitutional rights and they're afraid that the people may revolt? Now Homeland Security, controlled by Obama is planning nation wide riot control. HE KNOWS HE's doing the same form of manipulation as those dictators from the past and he's mandated to prepare for war with the public who are sick of his socialist manipulations that are robbing people of their rights. And the Democrats speak of having more OPENNESS? More lies.

Darwin's choice

Sorry democrats.....but there's a crap sandwich on your plate, and it's your turn to take a bite.....!

Gosh, what a great idea! I sure hope they model it after the "most transparent administration in history" in Washington, DC!

Nothing in corrupt Ohio will change until the Ohio citizens unite and demand openness and honesty in Ohio's government.

What happened in corrupt Cuyahoga County, Ohio was only an iota of what was exposed by the FBI and reported in Ohio's newspaper. A few small fish were sent to prison, thrown under the bus. The major powers that be got a free pass.

Don't look for the Democrats to police their own. Same for the Republicans. They don't really care about the people of Ohio, they care about their power and loyalty to their political parties.

I have read that Ed FitzGerald will be 2014 Democrat candidate for Ohio governor. I have also read that Richard Cordray will be a candidate for Ohio governor.

The Democrat and Republicans are self-serving and care only about their political party. The people that they are supposed to represent mean nothing to them until election time when they beg for support and votes. Then after the elections are over, they ignore the people until the next election.
"The Case For Abandoning Political Parties"

George Washington warned us about the danger inherent in party politics in his farewell address to the nation in 1796:
"There is an opinion that parties in free countries are useful checks upon the administration of the government, and serve to keep alive the spirit of liberty. This within certain limits is probably true and in governments of a monarchical cast patriotism may look with indulgence, if not with favor, upon the spirit of party. But in those of the popular character, in governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged."

John Adams warned us too, in 1789:
"There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution."

President Eisenhower (in 1956):
"If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power."
