Six veterans to receive French Legion of Honor

The Ohio Veterans Home in Perkins Township will host a ceremony Friday to recognize six Ohio veterans, including three from Sandusky, who helped liberate France during World War II.

The ceremony is at 1 p.m., and the public is invited to attend. The veterans will receive the Medal of Knight of the Legion of Honor, presented by Honorary Consul of France Stephen Knerly Jr., joined by Ohio Department of Veterans Services director Tim Gorrell. Knerly will present a brief history of the award.

The veterans honored are Charles Malachosky, 92, of Cuyahoga Falls; Richard Robb, 95, of Sandusky; John Stauffer, 91, of Sandusky; John Turk, 89, of Novelty; John Weske, of Sandusky, who died in 2013; and Robert Zonneville, 88, of Mentor.
