Sandusky residents are invited to remember the one-year anniversary of Officer Andrew Dunn's death by attending a vigil at sundown (approximately 8:15-8:30) at the police memorial near the Erie County Courthouse.

Dunn, 30, was shot and killed during a traffic stop during the early morning hours of March 19, 2011. The death of the young officer sent shock waves through the community. He is the only Sandusky policeman ever shot and killed in the line of duty.

Fellow officers from hundreds of miles around descended on Sandusky for Dunn's funeral a week after the shooting. A long funeral procession with dozens of police cars wound its way around the city as residents watched in quiet tribute.

Kevin Randleman, the man accused of killing Dunn, now faces capital murder charges. He is set to face trial in Erie County in the coming months.

Dunn will be memorialized later this year on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C.

that's right.  should never have happened.  gone are the days of safe and secure neighborhoods, jobs, travels.  such an awful shame.

my sympathies to his wife and children

Also to his parents.  May all have the hardness and care lifted from their hearts some day, so they may truly be able to remember him with the beauty and joy they once had.  This must be terrrible for them.

And let me guess, there were no fights, no gunshots, no police called because of rioting, nope just a peaceful gathering for a memorial, take note on how civil folks act in society Mondays.
