Country Imported Motors owner Eric Weiss, a car repairman for 40 years, recently moved to Tiffin Avenue and Venice Road, not far from his old digs.
“Everybody loves it,” Weiss said. “It’s a great location.”
The new shop is cleaner and has a place for everything. Anything other repairs shops or dealers can offer — even maintenance programs — Weiss offers, too.
Near the old shop on Venice Road, customers would occasionally get stuck at the railroad tracks on their way in.
“Customers dropping off their car are on a schedule,” Weiss said.
He put the shop up for sale more than two years ago, but he has finally sold it now that the city is building an overpass.
Weiss works with Tim Moots, who has been repairing cars since 1977.
Weiss started his shop decades ago, specializing in imports, although these days they repair all cars, foreign or domestic.
“We can fix anything but a broken heart,” Moots said. “But we’re even getting good at that.”
Moots and Weiss said they’ve seen customers get stuck with unfair bills for work done at other repair shops, and it always makes them angry.
Weiss said his labor charge is considerably cheaper, and his cost for car parts is often cheaper than what’s found at some shops.
For those who need help paying their repair bills, County Motor Imports contracts with a finance agency, Spring Leaf Home Solutions.
Weiss and Moots said they’ll also inspect a car a customer is considering purchasing.
“We wish they all would,” Weiss said. “We could save so many headaches for people.”
Typically, that’s how they build trust with customers. That, and a great cup of coffee, Weiss said.
