Sandusky Car Care Service keeps your wheels looking good

When you've cleaned Michael Jordan's car, you learn to pay attention to the details.

Same with Scottie Pippen's ride, and Moses Malone's, too.

"The trick to detailing is focus and patience," said Brian Sanders, owner of Sandusky Car Care Service on Cleveland Road.

Sanders, who opened his new car-detailing business about three months ago, has six employees on hand. He handpicks an employee for each job, based on who's best suited for the task at hand.

The rule of thumb: An employee should clean a customer's vehicles as if it's his own.

“I wouldn't have anyone cleaning a car who didn't clean their own car,” Sanders said.

Sanders has been detailing cars since he was a boy in Chicago, where he worked at his uncle's shop. He detailed vehicles owned by Chicago sports celebrities such as Jordan and Pippen, as well as NBA legend Moses Malone.

Sanders has established tiered pricing, allowing customers to choose their desired level of service. For a simple car wash, for instance, it's $8.50, while a wash for a truck or SUV is $9.50.

Customers looking for the full package — a scrupulous cleaning of the entire vehicle – will pay about $90 for a car and $100 for a truck.

“For that, we do everything, even the trunk,” Sanders said.

Customers looking to have their vehicles detailed should schedule an appointment in advance.

The shop also offers simple vehicle maintenance such as oil changes, and it's also a U-Haul location.

Um...just because he cleaned their cars, doesn't mean they were pleased with the service. I can wait on the U.S. president when he comes to my restaurant; that doesn't mean I'm automatically the best waitress in town. Sounds like they have too much going on--U-Haul, vehicle maintenance, detailing.....seems fly-by-night, if you ask me.

Other car service places do as much if not more. That's not too much. Oil changes are simple. My daughter can do one. Detailing is not rocket science either. Why would you assume they're fly by night? The U-Haul representation should be proof enough that they're upstanding. U-Haul wouldn't join with someone that's not on the up and up.

Quit being lazy and wash your own car.
