In February, as a strategic move to expand its offerings, America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses moved into The Crossings complex on Milan Road.

“Most of our locations in Ohio are more east,” said Christine Metz, the store’s assistant manager. “This is a good location and an easy place to find.”

Dr. Emmett Cleary, the optometrist at the Sandusky location, obtained his bachelor’s in psychiatry and in optometry from Nova Southeastern University in 2002.

He’s been practicing in Ohio ever since.

Others at the store include Jeri Fistek, a licensed optician with more than 20 years experience, and Amy Blackmar, an optometric technician.

Pam Conley is the store’s apprentice optician.

“The staff here is phenomenal,” Fistek said.

The business is known for its discount exams and low prices for prescription eyeware and contacts. One deal, for example, is two pairs of single-vision, plastic lens glasses for $69.95, which includes the eye exam.

The employees said they take great pride in offering vision services to people who otherwise couldn’t afford it.

“A lot of companies are losing vision insurance,” Metz said. “We can offer discounts that, a lot of times, beats insurance.”

The store offers a number of price levels to serve people of all incomes. There are basic frames for $70, as well as more high-end products, which also come with discounts.

America’s Best Contact & Eyeglasses purchases the overstock from higher-end retailers like Prada, Coach, Ray-Ban and Vera Bradley, to name a few.

The savings are then passed on to those looking for modern eyeware.

The store also offers sunglasses and other accessories.
