To seek out drunk drivers, Norwalk police plans on stepping up road patrols from Aug. 15 through Sept. 1 during a special enforcement period.

As part of the 2014 National Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over crackdown, Norwalk police "officers will work overtime hours patrolling the street searching for impaired drivers in an effort to reduce crashes and injuries and make our road safer," according to a related release. Overtime funds are provided from a federal grant aimed at seeking out drunk drivers.

The focus area of these patrols is U.S. 250, U.S. 20, Ohio 61, Ohio 18, Whittlesey Avenue and League Street.

Please follow these safety tips to help prevent crashes and injuries:

• Wear your seat belt and make sure all passengers wear theirs.

• Slow down.

• Drive defensively.

• Don't drink and drive. Instead, use a designated driver; call a taxi, friend or relative ;and don't ride with someone who has been drinking.

• Drink responsibly.

• Call your local law enforcement agency if you see a drunk driver on the road.
